Chocolate Marbled Pound Cake

- 1/2 cup shortening shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter shopping list
- 3 cups sugar shopping list
- 5 large eggs shopping list
- 3 cups all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1 cup milk shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract shopping list
- 1 (1-ounce) square unsweetened chocolate shopping list
- 1 Tablespoon shortening shopping list
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans shopping list
How to make it
- Beat 1/2 cup shortening and butter at medium speed of an electric mixer about 2 minutes or until creamy.
- Gradually add sugar, beating mixture at medium speed 5 to 7 minutes.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating just until yellow disappears.
- Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture --Mix at low speed just until blended after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla extract.
- RESERVE 2 cups batter.
- Combine chocolate and 1 Tablespoon shortening in a small, heavy saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate melts.
- Add chocolate mixture to reserved to RESERVED 2 cups batter, stirring until blended.
- Pour one-third of PLAIN batter into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan; top with half (1/2) of chocolate batter.
- Repeat batter layers, ending with plain batter.
- Swirl batter with a knife to create a marbled effect; sprinkle top with pecans.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
- Let cool in pan on wire rack 10 to 15 minutes; remove from pan, and let cool completely completely on wire rack.
- Yield: one 10-inch cake.
