German Onion Pie

- 1-1/2 cups flour sifted shopping list
- 3/4 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1-1/2 teaspoons caraway seed shopping list
- 1/2 cup shortening shopping list
- 3 tablespoons water shopping list
- Filling: shopping list
- 3 cups yellow onions thinly sliced shopping list
- 3 tablespoons butter shopping list
- 1/2 cup milk shopping list
- 1-1/2 cups sour cream divided shopping list
- 3/4 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 2 eggs well beaten shopping list
- 3 tablespoons flour shopping list
- crisp bacon curls for garnish shopping list
How to make it
- Combine flour, salt and caraway seed.
- Add shortening then cut into flour until mixture resembles small peas or coarse cornmeal.
- Stir water in lightly with fork then stir until mixture adheres and follows fork around bowl.
- Turn onto floured board and roll to 1/8-inch thickness.
- Fit into pie pan and bake at 425 for 10 minutes.
- Sauté onions in butter until lightly browned then spoon into baked pastry shell.
- Add milk, 1-1/4 cup sour cream and salt to beaten eggs.
- Blend flour with remaining 1/4 cup sour cream.
- Combine with egg mixture then pour over onions.
- Bake at 325 for 30 minutes.
- Garnish with bacon curls.
