Amish Hamburger Steak Bake

- 2 pounds ground beef shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups saltine crackers, crumbled (1 pack of crackers, approximately) shopping list
- 1 cup milk shopping list
- 1/2-1 teaspoon Italian herbs shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon powdered onion shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon powdered garlic shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper shopping list
- Flour, for coating shopping list
- Salt and freshly ground pepper, as desired shopping list
- For the gravy: shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups milk shopping list
- 2 (10.75 oz.) cans condensed mushroom cream soup shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease 9 x 13 baking dish.
- 2. In a bowl, mix 2 lbs minced beef, 1 1/2 cups crumbled saltine crackers, 1 cup whole milk, 1/2 tsp Italian herbs, 1/2 tsp powdered garlic, 1/2 tsp powdered onion, 1/4 tsp cayenne, salt, and pepper.
- 3. Shape the mixture into 1/2-inch-thick hamburger steaks. Dredge them in flour.
- 4. Brown the steaks in a skillet over medium-high heat, then transfer them to a baking dish.
- 5. Whisk together 2 cans condensed mushroom soup and 1 1/2 cups whole milk. Pour the mixture over the steaks in the baking dish.
- 6. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes until cooked through and the gravy is bubbly.
- 7. Let it rest briefly before serving. Garnish however you choose! Enjoy with your choice of side dishes.
