Meatballs With Red Sauce

For the meatballs:
- 1 lb ground sirloin shopping list
- 1 lb ground pork shopping list
- 2 slices of bacon shopping list
- 1 c breadcrumbs shopping list
- ¾ c ricotta shopping list
- 2 T buttermilk shopping list
- 3 eggs shopping list
- ¼ c parsley shopping list
- 2 t oregano shopping list
- 1½ t fennel seeds shopping list
- 1 t red chile flakes shopping list
- ½ t ground cumin shopping list
- ¼ t allspice shopping list
- olive oil shopping list
- black pepper shopping list
- salt shopping list
For the sauce:
- 28-oz can of whole tomatoes (pref. San Marzano) shopping list
- 1 c beef broth shopping list
- ¼ c red wine shopping list
- basil shopping list
- bay leaf shopping list
How to make it
- 1 Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- 2 Finely mince the bacon, then combine all the ingredients for the meatballs (except oil) in a bowl and work together by hand until uniform. Form into meatballs of any size from walnut-sized to half pound.
- 3 Sauté the meatballs in olive oil until browned on all sides. Remove to a plate as they finish.
- 4 Crush the tomatoes with a potato masher until loose. Add broth, wine, bay leaf and a pinch of basil. Submerge the meatballs in the sauce along with accumulated juices from the pan.
- 5 Cover and bake for 1 hr. Serve with Parmesan over cooked spaghetti.
- Makes 8-30 meatballs, depending on size
