Chicken Fried Steak or Hamburger
From twill10 15 years agoIngredients
- I'm not sure where this recipe came from, but I put my spin on it with the ground beef. You can also make it with pork cutlets, that have been tenderized. shopping list
- * 3 lbs 1/2 thick round steak, (pounded to thickness)If you can get it tenderized at the store that works best. I have used ground beef Patties for years and it comes from my Sister Jan who is a very good cook and can bring the price down if needed! shopping list
- * The Patties should be the size of a large hamburger and a 75 to 25 or 80 to 20 percent ratio of fat to meat works best. You don't have to dip the patties in the milk just put them in the flower and press firmly. The meat is sticky and the flour will stick well, just make sure your cooking oil is hot and don't put to many Patties in the pan to cook at one time,(the patties will boil and not fry if you do that). You can season the patties separate or put the spices in the flour. Temp should be about 350 or medium to medium high. If frying offends the senses spray Patties with low calorie Pam well and bake in oven til done. shopping list
- * 4 c vegetable oil shopping list
- * 1 5 oz can evaporated milk shopping list
- * 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional) shopping list
- * 2 1/2 tsp paprika shopping list
- * 2 c all-purpose flour shopping list
- * 2 1/2 tbsp hot pepper sauce (optional) shopping list
- * 3/4 tsp ground black pepper( I like white pepper better and it is warmer) shopping list
- * 3/4 tsp salt; additional salt to taste shopping list
How to make it
- Directions
- 1. In a medium bowl combine your milk, hot pepper sauce and salt. Add one cup of flour in another medium bowl. Combine the remaining flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt and ground black pepper in a third medium bowl .
- 2. Dip the steak in the unseasoned flour and coat it, then dip into the milk and pepper mixture. Next coat your meat in the bowl with seasoned flour. If you have more than one piece of meat, repeat for each piece.
- 3. Pout the oil into a medium skillet and heat the oil at medium high heat. Make sure the oil is fully heated. Place the coated meat in the skillet and fry for 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Drain meat on paper towels. Serve with mashed potatoes and white cream gravy.
