Love Hatch, love Notes From England! Discovered a hack!
Emily B.· Review provided by hatch.co · April 11, 2024
Hi! I continue to adore my Hatch Restore 2. I am so impressed with this company and its product. It has changed my sleeping and working habits. I adore Notes From England — please never retire it! I hope new episodes continue to populate because repeats are a small bummer. But it is still much more enjoyable than the attempt at Trivia of the Day, which failed in my eyes because it wasn't very time sensitive and didn't sync up to the actual day... Additionally, I've discovered the Restore 2 makes a great home office buddy. I wind up my work day with an alarm-less sunrise, and then I use the sleep settings as white noise to play in the background while working. I'd love to see more applications of the Hatch like this. From a tech perspective: I wish this was Bluetooth paired instead of WiFi connected — the hiccups appear to be beyond us, but the connectivity glitches get old. I also wish it could connect as a speaker for non-Hatch things. Finally, it would be nice if I could use the Hatch alarms, sounds, episodes, etc. directly from my app on my phone when I am traveling and away from my physical Hatch. I feel like this should be feasible because we can preview sounds from the app when we're close to the device. Why not be able to use it directly on my phone from afar? Thanks so much!
Night: Great. Mornings: Not Quite There

The bedtime routines are great. Excellent sounds to choose from, no concerns there.
I dont like the morning options. I wish there was a way for us to connect to bluetooth and play our own music in the morning. Or have more sound options that dont include words. The instrumental songs arent really boppy enough to actually get you up and moving.
The app itself is a little frustrating to use. I dont like how if you have a routine in progress, and you make an update, it stops the routine you were in.
I wish you could favorite what sounds you like.
I wish you could set up certain routines for certain days, rather than either having the same routine every day/night or updating it in the app each time you want something different. Like, we have alarm options for different mornings/times of the week, can the same thing apply to routines?
The morning sounds: i wish you could select exactly which song you wanted from an "album" rather than having it be random when it comes on
All in all, i like my hatch enough to keep it around and hope that additional features will become available in future considering we have to pay $5 a month for premium sounds (that I dont even like, so I cancelled it lol)
Better sleep!

I've had Philips sunrise lights before, but they're such a hassle to set up and change (not app connected), I find myself not even using it. It also has a lot of buttons on it (presumably since it has no app), so it's overly complicated to set up. It frustrates me more than anything. I did sleep well when using it, and I firmly believe that the "sunrise" lights help me wake up better.
Along came the Hatch light. The first thing I looked for was something that was app-connected. Check. I signed up for the membership (and did the 1 year after my trial expired...love it). There's so much customization, but I also love how Hatch simplifies things into two categories, go to sleep ("rest") and wake up ("rise"). It really makes it user friendly. I still haven't scratched the surface of all the functions it has, but I am definitely getting better sleep (which was a problem for me).
One suggestion, when going to sleep "rest", you press the "rest" button once to do a daily affirmation thing, then press it again for sound. However, with the daily affirmation thing, the light lights up at full brightness. I'm in my dark room trying to sleep, and for a split second I get this bright light. I now just close my eyes when I press it, then press it again. Maybe there's a way it could be programmed so if you press and hold the sleep button, it skips straight to the ambient sleep routine?
Nice but too expensive for most vis a vis the benefit

It's OK. I hate that for such a crazy price you then have to upgrade for basic sounds liek.cri let's which were included with the Restore. Restore 2 is pretty but honestly I can't say either the original or 2 is any better. They both blend in nicely.
The buttons on the 2 for light and sound are super annoying. On both units you set the sound in your rout8ne and it's NEVER what you set it to. It's the default of 30 something and it's loud! A bit jarring when the point kg a wind down routine or wake up to be calming.
The overall concept and the point of nighttime routines and the ability to combine a sound machine with an alarm clock with a nightlight (for kids) is great. We love that.
We hate the light and volume adjustments on the 2. Yiu will be cursing as you try to adjust them for a kid at night.
I'd recommend it but with the caveat that it is pricey and the paid subscription is hard to justify. Mostly bc the upside offered to it includes things that most us already get via subscription services for smart watches, fitness trackers, or services like peloton. How many meditation apps does one truly need and to upgrade just for one soundscape is silly. So I'm giving it a 2 bc they took sounds off the free version and the app, and Device still are a bit kludgey.
