Update: the app was updated, which is when the problem started. Clearing the storage as described worked. Heads up to anyone needing to do the same at any point. I didn't have anything in my safe folder, which is good because I couldn't have seen what they were & move them in the app. I didn't have any issues until I finally decided to update the app after putting it off. Now if I click on any of the folders the content won't load, so I can't access anything on my phone through this app.

Regret the inconvenience. Please update your app and try again. If you still experience issues, clearing the app storage may help: Open Settings > Apps > Files by Google > Storage & cache > Clear Storage. Important: Clearing app storage deletes files in the Safe Folder. Move your files out of the Safe Folder before clearing storage. Thanks!

I had a file management app pre-installed on my phone, but I installed Files 'cos I thought an app from big G would be better. However, my experience so far as been a letdown. The safe folder fails to authenticate passcode occasionally. The first time this happened to me, I decided to reset the folder as a solution, but lost every files in there. The app takes forever to launch, hangs amid use and stops abruptly when playing music. Fix all of these Google.

disappointing file manager ever and what's worse is that it comes built-in with the device instead of the traditional device's file manager. i have been trying to operate it since the last week, none of the folders – none whatsoever – are loading. for the past 7 days or so. all my important documents which i need to access for exams can be accessed only through the files app. the APP IS UPDATED. it is the exact same case with my friend whose built-in file manager is google files. fix it please!!

What's new
When you scan a document, it’s saved in your device’s Scanned folder.
“Documents & other” category is now called “Documents” to make it easier to find PDF files. Other files, like backup and database files, can be found in “Downloads” or “Internal storage”.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll roll out search improvements like recently opened files, quick results, and dropdown filters to make finding files even easier.
