Came back to the game after taking a year long break to see if there were any improvements and was very disappointed. The pay to win aspect was always there, but wow, they've really leaned into it even more. Can't even unlock new characters now without buying them for hundreds of dollars. The game used to be somewhat free to play friendly, but now it's just a joke.

Fundamentally, the game is fun and it's cool to collect and use many different marvel characters. However, it went from being in a good state for FTP players to becoming very catered to krakens and heavy spenders that FTP players are getting more and more bottlenecks again. The most recent trial and upcoming Illuminati team is a perfect example. The game has had so many bugs and errors lately too, I wouldn't recommend this game if you're intending to play it for free.

4 year player, I still play and enjoy certain elements of the game but it is uncomfortably pay to play. If you aren't spending at least $20 a month, you aren't going to stay competitive or have access to new characters for months. The decline in the game is unfortunate, especially given it's huge draw for Marvel fans who want a fun game at their fingertips. Hopefully changes internally are made and more are given back to the players, since that's what the core of this game is about, the players.
