With its huge maps, powerful vehicles, in-game economy, and near-future theme, Kaos Studios and THQ are trying to make the multiplayer in Homefront play differently than any other game in the FPS genre. Get all the details from the team behind the upcoming shooter in the latest Homefront developer diary.

The devs give gamers the rundown on vehicles (you don't need to spend two hours learning to fly a helicopter), Battle Points (buy what you want/need right in the heat of battle), the near-future tech that will add a few new drone-controlled wrinkles, and the game modes that will make maps into evolving battlefields. See for yourself:

Homefront is being developed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PCs. The game is set to ship on March 8 in North America, March 10 in Australia, and March 11 in the UK and Europe.

Sharkey says: I'm mixed about Battle Points and the ability to purchase weapons and equipment in the middle of a game. I envision a character standing still as the player cycles through menus, searching for a rocket launcher as a helicopter rains down fire from above. Then again, simply having the option of getting the stuff you want when you actually want it holds promise. It will be interesting to see how Kaos puts this whole system in play.
