Namco Bandai, fresh off of announcing a bounce-back profitable fiscal year, had plenty to share with the gaming world at its Step Up Dubai event today. And there is no bigger news than the official announcement of Soul Calibur V.

Soul Calibur director Daishi Odashima has been teasing the latest game in the weapon-based fighting franchise for over a year, and Namco Bandai chose its Dubai-based event as the stage for the unveiling, showing off a teaser trailer that will replace the below image once it goes live at 11:30 a.m. EST.

Namco Bandai also launched a countdown teaser site last week which is expected to become the official Soul Calibur V website when the clock hits zero at 1 p.m. EST today.

The game is being developed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and set for release sometime in 2012. Beyond that, Namco said more details will be provided at E3 in June.

Sharkey says: Sorry for the tease on the teaser trailer. Despite showing it at Step Up Dubai, Namco put an embargo on it for the media. Will post as soon as the embargo is up. Beyond that, what would SC fans like to see in V? More interesting guest appearances, perhaps?
