Rockstar did a helluva job teasing its upcoming zombie survival western DLC pack, Undead Nightmare, all the while dancing around the day we would actually get to play it. Today the studio finally fessed up, letting Red Dead Redemption fans know they'll be getting the scary new single-player adventure in time for Halloween.

The Undead Nightmare Pack will be available for download on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on October 26 for 800 Microsoft Points or $10.

"Undead Nightmare turns the world of Red Dead Redemption upside down," Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games, said in a statement. "The supernatural vibe and the return of some favorite characters create a whole new game inside an already incredible world."

In the Undead Nightmare single-player adventure, which serves as a side story that will not impact gamers still playing through the original campaign, New Austin is overrun with zombies. John Marston must survive wave after wave of walking dead in town after town until he finds a cure for the zombie plague.

Among the details Rockstar shared today:
-- Four zombie classes enter the fray, each possessing unique characteristics, attacks, and defenses.

-- Mythical creatures roam the frontier, alongside zombie cougars, bears, wolves and many more.

-- Taking down the undead requires non-traditional weaponry, including the new Blunderbuss, which can be loaded with looted remains of fallen zombies. The deadly Tomahawk and the Explosive Rifle make a triumphant comeback and will be available exclusively for those who downloaded the Legends and Killers Pack and the Liars and Cheats Pack.

-- The all new single-player narrative features new challenges, quests, and ambient events, including Missing Persons, where the player must find a missing survivor lost amongst the throngs of undead.

-- New competitive multiplayer and multiplayer free roam content includes Undead Overrun, a brand new multiplayer survival mode where waves of infected attack and players must work together to stay alive against increasingly difficult odds.
Rockstar also announced it will be releasing a retail version of Undead Nightmare. The disc will include the full zombie pack, Outlaws to the End Co-Op pack, Legends and Killers Pack, Liars and Cheats pack, and all the multiplayer Free Roam modes released to date. Undead Nightmare will retail for $29.99. No release date was announced beyond "coming soon."

Sharkey says: Can't wait for this one. And word from our friends at IGN is that those mythical creatures are the Four Horses of the Apocalypse. If you're man enough, you can break the flaming War steed and make him your very own.
