There's a new Mass Effect expansion out. Its release was quite a surprise, despite the hints leading up to it.
First, new achievements surfaced that hinted at new DLC for Mass Effect, but no official word came from BioWare concerning the content. Then, the Pinnacle Station premium theme popped up on the Swiss Xbox website, followed by a set of Mass Effect Avatar gear, with no official word from BioWare. Now, the premium theme, Avatar gear, and the actual new, in-game content are all available for purchase on Xbox Live, sans an official announcement.
The tight-lipped stance is starting to make sense though, as gamers who are buying the DLC are already having issues loading the new scenario (via Joystiq). According to a thread in the BioWare Community forums, players who bought the Platinum Hits version of Mass Effect, and played through the bundled Bring Down The Sky DLC, are being shut out of the new Pinnacle Station DLC.
The current workaround on the boards calls for deleting the Bring Down The Sky content and redownloading it from Xbox Live. A BioWare representative has posted in the thread that the devs are working on the problem, but that an ETA on the fix can't be given at this time.
Tyler says: I held onto this story yesterday thinking there wasn't much news to report on, but now that people are having issues with DLC compatibility, I wonder if the reason BioWare was mum on announcing the DLC was because it knew of the issue? I normally don't buy into conspiracy theory stuff, but I find it funny that even though the DLC is out now, it's still not officially announced. Weird.
