Team Bondi's new MotionScan technology in L.A. Noire captures actors performances with uncanny accuracy, and publisher Rockstar Games announced today that those video game performances will be on display as an Official Selection at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival.
Marking the first time that a video game has been recognized by the film festival, L.A. Noire will be presented at Tribeca as part of the Tribeca Talks series on Monday, April 25. The presentation will include a live demo of part of a case from the game, followed by a Q&A covering the crossover between filmmaking and interactive entertainment.
"What Rockstar and Team Bondi have accomplished with L.A. Noire is nothing less than groundbreaking," Geoff Gilmore, Chief Creative Officer of Tribeca Enterprises, said in a statement. "It's an invention of a new realm of storytelling that is part cinema, part gaming, and a whole new realm of narrative expression, interactivity, and immersion. We are poised on the edge of a new frontier."
L.A. Noire is being developed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is set to ship on May 17.
Sharkey says: Roger Ebert can't be pleased with this news. Sorry, couldn't resist the jab. Congrats to Team Bondi and Rockstar on the accomplishment. Can't wait to travel back to 1940s Los Angeles.
