How'd they do that? That's the question the industry-at-large asked after getting a look at the stunning facial animations on display in the debut trailer for Rockstar and Team Bondi's detective thriller, L.A. Noire. Ask no more. In the latest behind-the-scenes trailer for the game the developers reveal the technology behind the performance.

L.A. Noire Creative Director Brendan McNamara, R&D boss Oliver Bao, and a number of actors from the game take us inside the Depth Analysis Chamber, and explain how the MotionScan technology provides an unprecedented level of realism, detail, and emotion never seen before in a videogame.

L.A. Noire is being developed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game is set to ship sometime in spring 2011.

MotionScan is a giant leap forward for videogames. Also: nice to see John Noble, aka Walter Bishop from Fringe, has joined the cast.
