Kane and Lynch are back this August in Dog Days, and fans of the not-so-dynamic duo should know what to expect from the game's single-player campaign: an unrelenting crime shooter. But IO Interactive is hoping to surprise a few fans with Dog Days' multiplayer modes -- a mix of old and new the developer promises will crank the intensity dial up to 11.

IO announced the Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days multiplayer today, detailing an expanded Fragile Alliance and all-new modes designed to "brutally tempt, sway, and cloud your better judgment."

"We've been working hard on making the Fragile Alliance multiplayer a much more expansive, rewarding and captivating experience for players," said Kim Krogh, multiplayer game director at IO Interactive. "The gritty visuals bring an entirely new intensity and realism to multiplayer. We've definitely changed the dynamics quite a bit and hope to push players to new levels of both greed and loyalty."

The multiplayer scoop:

In Fragile Alliance, there are more risks and rewards as players work to escape with as much loot as possible within a four minute time frame. Work together to get past the cops, or take out a teammate or two so you can grab more cash for yourself? Die and you get a badge to go with your gun and you become a cop trying to stop the heist. To help newcomers get up to speed, IO has also added a single-player Fragile Alliance Arcade Mode.

Deciding who to trust is a big part of Fragile Alliance, and that decision will be more difficult to make in Dog Days with the addition of Undercover Cop. In this mode, one player will be chosen at random to be the undercover cop and tasked with single-handedly stopping the heist by taking out all of his "teammates."

Cops & Robbers mode puts players on opposing teams. The Robbers try to gather and protect their loot while the Cops try to retrieve it. Players swap sides each round.

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days ships for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PCs on August 24.

Sharkey says: The Kane & Lynch: Dead Men single-player campaign didn't really do much for me, but I had a blast with Fragile Alliance. Looking forward to taking the upgraded mode for a spin.
