There's a new flight sim coming to town in the shape of 505 Games and 1C Company's IL-2: Sturmovik: Birds of Prey. The game is readying up to hit the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in September. Today saw the release of a new playable demo for Xbox Live users.
Based around large-scale aerial combat over the ground-based military operations of World War II, variety is at the heart of the action in IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey. Players participate in the most famous confrontations of the era piloting fighters, battle planes or heavy bombers across a range of thrilling missions.

There are six theatres of war in which to engage – The Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Berlin, Sicily, the Battle of the Bulge and Korsun – representing the main airborne battles of World War II in Europe.
The demo includes snippets from two of the game's main missions: The Battle of Britain and The Battle of the Bulge. IL-2 is said to feature real-time damage such as bullet holes in wings and trail lines during dogfights.

Demo those crazy flying skills.

Bryn says: I usually steer clear of WW2 flight games. More modern-day aircraft appeal to me more (I enjoy Namco Bandai's Ace Combat series quite a bit). And I've never been really into simmy flying games either. IL-2 looks like it might sway me a bit in terms of the era that it's based around, so I guess I'll check out the demo.

Any thoughts from those of you that have already grabbed it?
