F**king run! That's the name of one of the new multiplayer modes in F.E.A.R. 3, and it exemplifies how developer Day 1 Studios wants to get away from traditional deathmatches and bring a fresh online experience to its upcoming horror FPS.

Day 1 and Warner Bros. Interactive detailed the four modes that will make up the F.E.A.R. 3 multiplayer today, giving gamers a glimpse at what's in store in F**king Run, Contractions, Soul Survivor, and Soul King via the trailer below:

Our friends at IGN went hands-on with the multiplayer and provide their thoughts in this preview. They also landed this gem of a quote from designer Ki Wolf-Smith, who deftly describes what Day 1 is shooting for in the F.E.A.R. 3 multi:

"We wanted [F.E.A.R. 3's multiplayer] to be a very F.E.A.R., unique experience," Wolf-Smith told IGN. "So by not just having deathmatch... we wanted it to be like, 'Holy crap, this is different, this is fresh, this is fun.' When you want to play F.E.A.R. multiplayer and you want that F.E.A.R. experience, you're going to come to F.E.A.R. to play the multiplayer. You can play deathmatch in a hundred games."

F.E.A.R. 3 is being developed for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PCs. The game is set for release on May 24.

Sharkey says: The F.E.A.R. franchise is all about the scares, so it's one of those titles, for me, that simply doesn't need a multiplayer. However, as Ubisoft proved with Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, if you base the multiplayer on what makes the single-player so fun, you can create a worthwhile experience online. It appears Day 1 is hoping to do the same. Wise choice.
