One of Ubisoft's surprise announcements at its E3 2011 press conference yesterday was for Far Cry 3. The stealth shooter is now in development at Ubisoft Montreal and a lengthy gameplay demo provides a good idea of the jungle-shrouded action to come.

As a setup for the demo, here's a synopsis of the game from Ubisoft:
With Far Cry 3, players step into the shoes of Jason Brody, a man alone at the edge of the world, stranded on a mysterious tropical island. In this savage paradise where lawlessness and violence are the only sure thing, players dictate how the story unfolds, from the battles they choose to fight to the allies or enemies they make along the way. As Jason Brody, players will slash, sneak, detonate and shoot their way across the island in a world that has lost all sense of right and wrong.
Off you go:

Far Cry 3 is in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PCs. The game is set for release sometime in 2012.

Sharkey says: I didn't know where Ubisoft was going with this demo when it opened with the lengthy Tony-Montana-meets-Sid-Vicious guy's monologue. But once it got going, it pulled me in, and I appreciated the full-circle ending. One to watch for 2012.
