Develop is reporting that Toby Gard, creator of the Tomb Raider series, has left the Crystal Dynamics studio. Rumors have been circulating for months that evidence Crystal Dynamics involvement with a revitalized Tomb Raider game, and Gard's presence on the project supported the theory. After working nine months on an "unannounced project" though, Gard revealed to Develop that he is no longer working with Crystal Dynamics, and that he has in turn started his own consulting business.

Tyler says: Well, I hope this isn't a bad sign for what we all know is going to be the Tomb Raider reboot (image found by a 4Player Co-op, "mole"). Could it be that Gard is over Lara Croft, or that he wasn't sure of the direction the new game was headed? All Gard would say to Develop was, "Obviously it's confidential what goes on at Crystal Dynamics," so we may have to wait a while for the dust to settle before we know anything concrete.
