Bionic Commando

Fair

Getting around the city can be a thrill, but it wears off a little too soon. Read Review

One of Capcom's all-time great franchises returns with this re-envisioned modern version of Bionic Commando. Continuing the story 10 years later (with slight modifications to character names in the re-envisioned story), gamers are once again playing the role of Nathan Spencer (aka "Rad" Spencer), a highly decorated government operative that distinguished himself in battle against a group known as the Imperials. However, Spencer finds himself betrayed by his commander known as Super Joe (who Commando fans should easily recognize). With his bionic arm removed and Spencer imprisoned for crimes he didn't commit, the warrior is sentenced to death. However, on the day that he's going to be executed, an experimental weapon is detonated in Ascension City by a terrorist group called Bio-Rain. With the city in ruins and the terrorists in control of tons of weapons, Joe has no choice but to offer Spencer a deal: if he will take on and defeat the terrorists, Joe will clear his name. Gaining a new bionic arm, Spencer leaps into action.

The Consensus: Bionic Commando Review

X360 Reviews | May 20, 2009

If you could climb buildings and the rest of your surrounding environment with ease it would essentially turn the world around you into a giant playground. Show me any kid who wouldn't appreciate that and I'll call you a liar. This world-as-giant-playground design is exactly what makes Bionic Commando so much fun.

This 3D reimagining follows up on the classic NES side-scroller (itself remade as Bionic Commando: Rearmed last year). You -- as Nathan "Rad" Spencer, the titular commando -- navigate myriad hostile environments using your trademark bionic arm to swing, Spider-Man-like, across the area at hand.

Just don't play it for the story -- I beat it, and I still don't completely understand exactly what the hell happened. Read More »

According to the omnipresent Major Nelson, the demo is now available for Xbox Live gold subscribers to everyone outside of Japan. Capcom's recent European Captivate showcase event brought out new media from the game.

The first true sequel to the original classic combines 3D swing-and-shoot gameplay with stunning new environments. Soar into the high-flying madness of 8 player deathmatch by downloading the demo today!" Read More »

Bionic Commando: What's Hot, What's Not

X360 Previews | Apr 14, 2009

At this point everyone knows Capcom's new Bionic Commando is about some guy who swings around with a mechanical arm, so I won't take time here to explain that. If you want to get more general information about the game, see our older previews. What I want to talk about is my first couple of hours with the game, and what I like (and dislike) so far.

I love that the new Bionic Commando continues the story of the original... at least to a degree. The original placed you in control of a bionic soldier named Ladd, who was trying to stop an evil organization and rescue Super Joe, the hero from the NES game Commando. The new game takes place 10 years after the events of the original, placing you in control of a new character who's been stripped of his bionics and thrown into prison for five years after the public turned against such things. He's freed only to combat a bionically aided terrorist group that has something to do with a woman he once loved. It sounds cheesy and cliche, and in a lot of ways it is, but it actually has all the makings for a great cheeseball action plot. Read More »
