1UP is reporting that the Battlefield Bad Company 2 Limited Edition will give players immediate access to a few unlockable items in multiplayer. While this might sound like an easy cash-in for developer DICE, it's important to note that the LE version of Bad Company 2 will cost exactly the same as the standard version. Why the incentive? So more people buy it early you turkey!

Here's what the LE will unlock for you on day one:
  • Improved Vehicle Armor -- An up-armor package is mounted on all vehicle types, decreasing the effect of both explosive and penetrating warheads, significantly improving vehicle survivability.
  • Supreme Vehicle Firepower -- Additional weapon packages are mounted for the driver of all armored vehicles, greatly expanding the range of targets the vehicle can successfully engage and destroy.
  • Vehicle Motion Sensor -- Use this electronics warfare package to locate enemy units in direct proximity to the vehicle.
  • Tracer Dart Pistol -- This magnetic dart attaches to any vehicle surface, allowing squad members to track, lock on, and fire rockets onto moving targets even beyond line of sight.
  • M1A1 Submachine Gun -- Reliable but heavy, this classic weapon is a powerful force in the hands of any Battlefield veteran.
  • M1911 Pistol -- Highly customized M1911 are favored for its dependability and the power of its large .45 caliber round.
In related news, we reported last week that one of the PC perks for Bad Company 2 was the inclusion of the prone position. But according to a tweet by lead game designer David Goldfarb, there will be "no prone in any sku of BC2, sorry!"

Tyler says: While some may cry foul, I have no problem with the move by DICE. The number-one reason I'm not miffed: The LE costs the same price as the standard box. Also, it's not like the unlocks are for LE owners only, everyone will be able to unlock them.

As for the unlocks themselves, the only one I'm squeamish about is the extra armor for tanks. Those behemoths take enough damage as it is, and now that they can see through walls and detect C4 and land mines, forget about it! I'm also scratching my head over the Tracer Dart Pistol. I know in Bad Company 1 it was a secondary item for the Special Ops class, but would this imply that you can carry the handy tool with other classes now? And for Battlefield 1943 fans, it looks and sounds like the M1A1 Submachine Gun is the Thompson from the Anti-tank class. At this point, is anyone but me thinking it would be more fun to go with the standard version, unlocking the items on your own?
