DICE opened the gun cabinet today to talk weapon customization in Battlefield 3, detailing how players will be able to fill each main weapon's three accessory slots to create thousands of different combinations.

Posting on the official Battlefield Blog, DICE provided a visual example of its weapon customization system at work. With a basic Carbine, the studio demonstrated how players will be able to craft weapons to fit their playstyle.

For players that prefer medium- to long-range fighting and playing more of a support role, the above Carbine is equipped with a heavy barrel, bipod, and 4X magnification combat scope.

In this second image, the same Carbine has been stripped and re-equipped with a suppressor, foregrip, and quick acquisition holographic scope. This load out would be ideal for players who prefer close quarters fighting and stealth.

"While the class and model of your weapon will determine a number of basic values (like muzzle speed, energy, and fire rate), you can always modify it to tweak it towards anything from long range to close quarters combat," DICE stated.

Battlefield 3 is in development for Windows PCs, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The shooter is set for launch on October 25.
