Aside from the obvious graphical discrepancies between the PC and console versions of Battlefield 3, DICE revealed at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo that the anticipated FPS will also feature scaled-down multiplayer maps on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

DICE previously noted that the PC version of Battlefield 3 will allow for up to 64 players in online matches compared to the 24 players on consoles. To better suit that 40-player difference, the developer said multiplayer maps will be smaller.

So what about the battle for the skies with the return of jets in Battlefield 3? DICE confirmed that airspace will not be restricted in the console versions of the game, and jets will have full maps to fly through.

Battlefield 3 is being developed for Windows PCs, the Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The game is scheduled to launch sometime this fall.

Sharkey says: Are you a console gamer and FPS fan mulling the purchase of a gaming PC? I'd say Battlefield 3 provides the perfect reasons to upgrade: better visuals, better control, bigger maps, bigger battles. The 40 player difference in the multiplayer alone is reason enough.
