Animus Project Update 1.0 hit Xbox Live and PlayStation Network today, giving Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood players a new multiplayer mode and map. And Ubisoft announced today that more free DLC is on the way with Animus Project Update 2.0.

Starting today, Brotherhood's multiplayer will include Advanced Alliance, a new mode that significantly ups the difficulty level in the core Alliance Mode, providing a perfect playground for experienced assassins. And the new mode will be playable on the update's new map, Mont Saint-Michel, a rocky tidal island with narrow streets and multi-level architecture.

The rundown on Animus Project Update 2.0's new map and mode from Ubisoft:
The Pienza Map provides the perfect free-running playground where predators and targets can blend and disappear. In the new Chest Capture Multiplayer Mode two teams comprised of three players each partner with fellow Templars to either defend or capture Chests. Also included is the new Templar Score feature to reward diligent work by Abstergo recruits.
Animus Project Update 2.0 will be available as a free download on Xbox Live and PSN in January.

Sharkey says: I'll admit it: I'm the worst assassin ever. I jump into a multiplayer match in Brotherhood and it's like I have a giant neon sign above my head that reads "Stab Me Good." I'll definitely need to log many more hours of play before I can attempt Advanced Alliance.
