Syn Sophia, Inc., formerly known as Aki Corporation, is an independent game development studio located in Kichijoji, Tokyo, Japan. The company was founded on June 19, 1995 and went public in 1998. On April 1, 2007, Aki renamed itself syn Sophia, Inc., while its Japanese arm retained the Aki USA title.
The company name is based on two words: syn" - connect each other, as in synergy, and "sophia" - wisdom of the universe.
