MTV Games has struck a deal with Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment where Rock Band and the new "Star Trek" motion picture become one. Sort of.

The marketing move will see fans able to register, starting today, for a 15-day sweepstakes that will give away 500 free Rock Band store downloads each day. But wait, there's more.
Fans will want to fire up Rock Band 2's online Battle of the Bands mode to participate in the STAR TREK Ultimate Battle. Bands of three to four players can battle the Rock Band galaxy. The band with the highest score will win a STAR TREK hometown movie screening for their band and their friends.
Also, 20 randomly selected players will win "Star Trek" and Rock Band goodies. There's also a create-an-avatar competition where players are asked to craft a sci-fi avatar.

The prize pack for the winning avatar will apparently be comprised of "top-of-the-line Rock Band game accessories."

Rock your space socks off into the depths of the cosmos. Also, play Rock Band and watch "Star Trek"

Bryn says: There's Klingons around Uranus. Pffffft. Now that I've got that out of the way, I'd like to add that I'm actually quite excited about the prospect of watching the new "Star Trek" flick. I generally like J.J. Abrams' stuff, although I was a tad nonplussed with "Cloverfield."

"Lost" on the other hand... wheeew. Anyway I'll not profess to be anywhere near as nerdy as Allen when it comes to "Star Trek" nonsense. I think that boy is part Romulan.
