SNK's high-priced, classic console is getting a new lease on life. The Japanese company announced today that it will bring its library of NeoGeo games to the PlayStation 3 and PSP via a new NeoGeo Station on PlayStation Network.

Beginning on December 21, classic titles like Fatal Fury, Metal Slug, and King of Fighters will be available for download for $9 on the PS3 and $7 on the PSP. SNK has updated all of the games to include new versus and co-op options, and the company promises to continuously update NeoGeo Station with new games and features.

Fatal Fury
Alpha Mission II
The King Of Fighters '94
Samurai Shodown
Baseball Stars Professional
Magician Lord
Metal Slug
League Bowling
Super Sidekicks
Art of Fighting
Launched in 1990, the NeoGeo featured advanced graphics and sound, as well as an advanced price tag of $650. The quality and popularity of its games managed to make the NeoGeo a viable niche product for years, with the last game for the console released in 2004.

Sharkey says: I remember going to Electronics Boutique as a kid and examining the NeoGeo box -- with its detailed pictures of its games in action -- like a jeweler examining a diamond. I loved the NeoGeo arcade cabinets and dreamed of owning the console. The lofty price tag only made me want the system that much more, but at $600-plus, it might as well have been $6 million. To this day, the NeoGeo name still holds some elusive magic.
