Spike TV's Video Game Awards are shaping up to be a platform for industry announcements on par with a gaming expo. And Sony has revealed it plans to extend the night of premiers and reveals by making a big announcement of its own at an exclusive PlayStation 3 event in Hollywood the day after the VGAs.

We know we'll be seeing the world premier of Rocksteady's Batman follow-up, Arkham City, BioWare has already teased us with its plan to unveil a new game, THQ is set to show off Saints Row 3 and its new Guillermo del Toro project, and the rumor mill reports Microsoft plans to please core gamers with the a Gears of War Kinect game at the VGAs. So what does Sony have planned? An event invite sent to the press doesn't offer any hints.

Speculation is already running rampant, and Internet forums are abuzz with PS3 players thinking (and hoping) Sony's reveal will be for Naughty Dog's Uncharted 3.

At the 2008 VGAs, Sony and Naughty Dog wowed gamers with their world premier trailer for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. It is rumored Sony will follow the same blueprint, with the world premier trailer for Uncharted 3 at the VGAs, followed by a closer look at the game at the special event the next day.

The Spike TV Video Game Awards is set to air on December 11 at 8 p.m. EST.

Sharkey says: The VGAs are typically a hot mess, but the show is becoming a must-see for gamers because of the growing number of world premiers and unveils that annually take place. As for the Sony event, I don't think there's much doubt the game will be Uncharted 3. It fits perfectly with the franchise's two-year development cycle and I expect we'll learn the next game will arrive in fall 2011.
