If the last PoP game was an experiment, then the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands makes it feel like a failed one. Instead of continuing the story of the 2008 Prince, Forgotten Sands is an interquel that brings The Sands of Time's protagonist out of retirement. My fear, of course, is that Forgotten Sands will be little more than a return to the old formula -- another iteration that retreads the ideas introduced in Sands of Time, at the expense of its own unique vision. With a blockbuster movie for its time-altering Prince nearing, Ubisoft has announced that a new game, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, will release alongside the film (h/t Kotaku). Back in September, series creator Jordan Mechner filed a trademark for Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, leading some to believe that The Forgotten Sands would tie in to the movie. While it's not clear if the game will feature Jake Gyllenhaal as the lead prince, we do know what the title will include "fan-favorite elements from the original series," plus some additions to the gameplay.
