Capcom announced in a press release today that it has signed a deal with Plan B Entertainment, Brad Pitt's production company, to bring Dark Void to the silver screen. The film's being billed as a sci-fi action franchise (implying multiple sequels) and could star Plan B head Brad Pitt. According to Capcom Senior VP of Licensing, Germaine Gioia, "Dark Void was developed with a wide-screen mentality - a world full of adventure presented in cinematic scope and scale." Dark Void (the game) will ship next year, on January 22.
Tyler says: Dear Mr. Pitt,
My generation knows you as a badass pretty boy. Your role as Tyler Durden in "Fight Club" was not only well-performed, it also encapsulated what many modern males were feeling at the time of the movie. You've been in respectable comedies such as "Burn After Reading," played a serial killer we loved to hate in "Kalifornia," and I'll even forgive the snoozefest "Curious Case of Benjamin Button."
But I urge you, at this point in your career, do not go the Milla Jovovich route. Since she started doing Resident Evil films (also a Capcom property) her buzz factor has dropped off precipitously. Think about it, what good film has she done since she starred in the first Resident Evil film? Trust me, Mr. Pitt, heed my warnings. Realize that when Capcom says "franchise" it's envisioning multiple sequels. Do you really want to be filming Dark Void 5 come 2014? Don't do it, Pitt, for your sake and for ours.
Sincerely,
