The wild boys of the SSC face hell again in this sequel to the hit third-person teamwork-based shooter. Army of Two: The 40th Day reunites Salem and Rios as they're forced to survive in a city under siege. The sequel includes more co-op moves for players to use at any time, which will allow for completely different strategies and options in battle, adding up to a bigger, more organic and immersive co-op experience.
The story of The 40th Day places Salem and Rios in the middle of Shanghai, China, as a disaster of epic proportions strikes the city. While they happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, they are the right men to react to the chaos. As they fight their way through ruined districts of the city, they discover more and more catastrophes are being orchestrated to devastate Shanghai piece by piece. It's up two Salem and Rios to uncover the secret of the 40th Day and survive the chaos.
Life is cheap; equipment isn't. Get the gear you need to survive the mean streets of Shanghai.
Take away the armored masks and you'd have a hard time telling Army of Two: The 40th Day from a glut of other third-person shooters. It's not bad enough to be especially memorable, and it's not good enough that people will talk about it for very long. And while the "buddy" mechanics of The 40th Day could have done wonders to make it more unique (including giving it the angle it needed to tell a cool story about two characters), it's woefully underdeveloped. Instead, we get a confusing tale about two vaguely developed characters, told through an occasionally fun but ultimately generic -- and at times, frustrating -- third-person shooter. Read More »

Last week we reported on Army of Two: The 40th Day's "pre-order bonus" deal wherein the multiplayer Extraction mode will be unlocked for only those who dropped $5 on the game early. Everyone else who buys the game on day one will have to wait a month before the mode is made available to them. Today Patrick Klepek at G4 managed to get a response from the game's publisher, EA, which defended the decision based on the team's need to come up with a pre-order bonus. See inside for the skinny. Responding to popular demand for four-player co-op in Army of Two: The 40th Day, executive producer Reid Schneider devised a new multiplayer mode called Extraction, similar to Uncharted 2's cooperative mode. But the mode, according to G4, won't be available to everyone on day one, as it's currently meant to be a one-month exclusive bonus for pre-orders.
According to The 40th Day's lead designer, Eric Chartrand, "The first multiplayer mode, and in my opinion the most exciting, is Extraction. Extraction is a new game mode that was devised as a bonus for pre-orders, giving gamers who pre-order a month of exclusive access." Read More »
