Lending a little more credence to the rumor that was flying around last month about Lightbox's Dylan Jobe and a new addition to the Warhawk franchise is news today that Sony Computer Entertainment America has officially trademarked the name "Starhawk."

Jobe, who recently departed Warhawk developer Incog, formed a new company called Lightbox. It was understood that the producer was working on a new Warhawk game for Sony, albeit one that took the action into a more sci-fi space-bound role. "Starhawk" could certainly fit that bill.

This little rumor-boosting nugget will surely give fans of Warhawk reason to start getting a tiny bit more excited.

Of course, SCEA has not made any announcements or acknowledgements that a new game in the franchise is being considered or worked on. Look to E3 for a potential unveiling of a new Warhawk property.

Try to imagine this, but with a starfield.

Bryn says: Hellsyeah. I think along with ex-GameSpy editor Gabe I liked Warhawk the most. I never tired of the open-ended rock-paper-scissors combat mechanics, and while I never really bothered to master the actual warhawk vehicles, I was a demon sniper, a bastard of a SAM gunner and best of all, a complete a-hole with a combat knife.

Time to boot up the PS3.
