Viewtiful Joe

Outstanding!

Capcom's ultra stylized action romp hits the PlayStation 2 fully intact. Read Review

In this fighting action game from Capcom Studio 4's Atsushi Inaba, players take control of an average, well, Joe as he's transported into his favorite movie. In his new environment, Joe discovers he has all the abilities of Hollywood action-hero when he becomes Viewtiful Joe. Using cel-shading techniques, VJ boasts a unique visual style that blends colorful 3D environments with a twisted take on traditional 2D gameplay. Joe's power stems from his skillful martial arts attacks, high-flying acrobatics, and time-bending special effects. Players can slow down or speed up time when attacking/ dodging enemies, as well as zoom in on the action to execute different attacks. As an added bonus for PS2 users, Devil May Cry's Dante has been included as a secret character.

Thankfully, Capcom has seen fit to share the love by bringing Joe's crazy antics -- plus a few pretty special extras -- to the PS2 for the bargain price of $29.99. Read More »

PS2 Previews | Jul 30, 2004

I've always been a big fan of Capcom's Viewtiful Joe. It was one of those refreshing games that took most people by surprise, teaching us once again that stylish visuals and spot-on gameplay can breathe life into a stagnant genre. The original GameCube version of VJ was very well received by both the gaming press and the video-game buying public alike, so in its infinite wisdom Capcom is getting ready to boot a delicious PS2 port of the game out of the door later this year. With a few tasty new reasons to make it interesting all over again, there's little doubt that this new rendition of VJ will not fail to please. Read More »
