Enemies

Male Sniffer Dogs
The male Sniffer Dogs are the general dog-type enemy in the series that we've grown to know and love, or despise, depending on if you're a "glass is half empty" type of person. These pups are deadly, as they will charge up their attacks and lunge at your torso. This will take down a little bit of health, and will keep you off-balance. Thankfully, you can move to the side so that they will miss, like a bull charging a red carpet. They will also attack you regularly for tiny amounts of damage. Try winding up your attack, and after dodging theirs, whack them with all of your might. Stop on them while they are on the ground.

Wall Man (Old Type)
There are a few different kinds of Wall Men, but the first you encounter are on an escalator in the Subway World. They are extremely annoying, and do an extreme amount of damage with every swipe. We suggest shooting them once or twice to stun them long enough to sneak by them. Otherwise, you can shoot them until they fall over, and beat the living snot out of them with the melee weapon of your choice.

Ghosts
There are various different ghosts with various different personalities. They all tie in with the story, and none of them can ever be truly killed. You can pin them down with the Sword Of Obedience, or illuminate them with Holy Candles, or even paralyze them for a few minutes with some Silver Bullets, but they never die. You should practically always avoid Ghosts unless noted in the Walkthrough. The Ghosts are named as Victims, and they all have numbers. Certain Victims look alike, such as Victims 1, 2, 3, 6, and 9, and certain Victims tie in with the story more than others (Victims 12, 4). For more on Story Related Ghosts, check out the Secrets section.

Hummer
No, this monster is nowhere near as big as the popular vehicle model, but is actually a bat with a humming bird's head attached to it. These things aren't that big (a little smaller than Henry's head), but they will attack in packs, unlike most enemies in the game. These guys also do great damage in numbers, so take a fast melee weapon to dispose of them quickly. Be sure to stomp on them after they have hit the ground, and try to take them out in groups to resist the whole "grab your head and don't let go" attack that they pull off.

Female Sniffer
While it may sound funny, there is a big difference between the male and female Sniffer dogs. The main difference is intelligent: as per usual with most species, the female is much smarter and more alert than the male, although the male Sniffer prefers to think otherwise. The female Sniffer will detect you sooner, as they have a wider aggro range, and they have a few decent attacks, such as grabbing your leg and pinning you while other fellow monsters may attack you. Nasty.

Toadstool
There's not much to say about this uneventful enemy. They will spawn in groups, and will usually just sit there and damage you whenever you walk into them. You can easily dispose of these things by whacking them with a melee weapon, which will make them sink into the ground rather quickly.

Tremers
These little things are both blue and red, but pretty much do the same thing. They just ooze nastiness, and if you get too close to them, they will ooze that nastiness all over you. If you accidentally step on these things, you will also take damage, so try to avoid them as much as possible, which can be very hard if you are running from another type of enemy.

Twin Victims
Arguably the most disturbing enemy in the entire game is a pair of twins that were murdered at the hands of Walter Sullivan several years back. They have been reincarnated as deadly two-headed babies with large hands and a lumbering body to share. These things are absolutely brutal at mid-range, as they have a body smash attack that is devastating, and they are particularly fast for being so large. Use the Pistol against them as they come charging at you, as they should go down in about 5-7 shots. Now, why are the Twin Victims a monster instead of a Ghost, like the rest of the victims? It could be that they're children, but to be perfectly honest, let's drop the subject. It freaks us out a bit too much.

Gum Head (Old Type)
The Gum Heads may resemble something straight out of the Splatterhouse series, but they are highly intelligent. The casual attack method of the Gum Head is to play chess, so to speak. The Gum Head will await your move, and take it from there. If you keep your distance, chances are that the Gum Head won't even care. He'll just stand there, staring at you endlessly. But once you get a little closer, it will begin slowly walking around. Finally, when you get too close, it will fall to all fours and leap towards you. The Stun Gun is the best option, as they will fall in one hit to it on the Normal difficulty.

Gum Head (New Type)
The main difference between the Old and New Types are the battle patterns. As with Old Type Gum Heads, you can easily predict how they are going to act, as they are classy fighters. But the New Type Gum Heads are completely off the wall with how they fight. They're more jumpy than the Old Types, and will leap in back of you to catch you off-guard. They can still be killed just the same as the others, however, but just expect them to resist more and pack a lot more of a punch.

Whitestool
The Whitestool is practically the same exact thing as the Toadstool. There's virtually no difference between the Whitestools and Toadstools. You can kill them with a melee weapon. You will be ranked at the end of the game based on how many enemies you killed, so these types of enemies are perfect for upping that grade!

Wheelchair
The most obscure enemy in the entire game comes in the form of a friendly reminder of Silent Hill's grisly past. The Wheelchair has appeared in all of the Silent Hill games, but never quite like this. You can never officially kill these things, however, if you beat them long enough they will zoom towards you--—at the speed of a slug. The Wheelchairs are a lot like Ghosts in a way, as you can never officially kill them, and whenever you get near them you will get damaged. They can also clone one another if you do not beat them to bits, meaning you will fight double of the amount later on if you did not beat them up. They are quite scary and deadly, proving to be a very complex and challenging enemy.

Patient
The Patients are quite basic when it comes to your typical Silent Hill enemy; they are fairly easy whenever it is one-on-one fights, as long as you do not allow them to get insanely close. Whenever they come into combat range, they will attack you with a basic combo that can really mess up your timing and, on the Hard difficulty, really leave you bruised. If there's more than one Patient in the room, take out your Pistol and bust a cap before they close in on you. They will combo you and set you up for a second, third, fourth, or even a fifth combo from the other Patient(s). They are also extremely creepy looking, to boot.

Wall Man (New Type)
The second type of Wall Men in the game are found as the single boss in the entire game besides the last (obviously). At the end of the second Building World visit, you will enter a room where there are several of these very large beasts that slide down and retract, hitting both you and your escort. The rest of them are decoys, but if you hit the lone correct Wall Man, it will damage all of them. Try hitting all of the new type Wall Men with a melee weapon to determine which Wall Man is real, then blast the correct one with your Pistol a few times.

Bottom
The last regular enemy you will find in the game is one of the most disturbing. Named due to their heads being where their crotch should be, and their crotch being where their head should be, the Bottoms move and fight a lot like the Twin Victims. They have a lot of annoying attacks, and they will hop up very quickly compared to most other enemies, so make sure that you take time away from bashing in other monsters' skulls to kill the Bottom with a foot stomp--a timely one, at that.
