There are going to be three new job classes available for players to advance their characters in when Treasures of Aht Urhgan is released. More details were unveiled regarding the two that were previously announced, the Blue Mage and the Corsair, and I learned that the third class would be a pet-based job called the Puppetmaster.

The Blue Mage job class basically allows the player to learn enemy skills, turning creature attacks against them. The way this skill should work is the character will have to survive the attack and be capable of gaining experience from it in order to learn a new skill. While all of the details weren't made explicitly clear, it is possible that unique Blue Mage skills will be learned based on the types of creature skills your character acquires. Some Blue Mage attacks we were shown include the goblin Bomb Toss, and Cactuar's 1000 Needles.

The Corsair will be a gun-toting ranged type class, like a Ranger, although with far more swashbuckling pirate flavor, drawing inspiration from the gambler-type characters from Final Fantasy's past, like Setzer and Cait Sith. The Corsair will make use of a Card ability, randomizing draws numbered from 1 through 6, trying to reach a total like in Blackjack, only the goal being 11 instead of 21. And just like in blackjack, there will be a penalty for busting. The type of party buff the Card ability will bestow will be based on the party makeup, with warriors in the party giving everyone a double attack bonus, a black mage giving everyone a magic attack bonus, a thief giving everyone a crit bonus, and so on. The closer you get to 11 without going over, the stronger the effect. Corsairs will wield a Hexagun, a multi-barreled revolver, and their ranged attacks will presumably allow the player to inflict debuffs on enemies, filling out their role as a support class character.

The third job class unveiled at the fan festival was the Puppetmaster. Originally conceived as a necromancer job class, the Puppetmaster design was created in order to avoid some of the problems a necro would bring, like being unable to use a pet during daylight hours. The developers confirmed that there will be more than one type of puppet available to players, although details are scarce at the moment. The inspiration for this class may not come directly from previous games in the Final Fantasy series, as Lulu's puppet in Final Fantasy X was little more than an animated melee weapon, and the class seems most like a derivative of the Doll Masters from the Ogre Battle Saga.
