Dead to Rights II details the events before the first installment of the series, with beat cop Jack Slate and his K-9 cohort Shadow combing the squalid alleys of Grant City for clues about the abduction of an important city official. Jack Slate returns to Grant City in Dead to Rights II … which is somewhat ironic since he vowed never to return to that hell hole, but for the purposes of a sequel it was fully expected. Apparently gruff and gritty heroes can renege on their vows as easily as politicians. Unlike a politico, Slate has a noble reason for going back on his word. An innocent girl is in a heap of trouble in Grant City, so Slate and his canine companion Shadow head back to town to save her.
