Dark Void

Average

This hybrid takes forever to start, and runs out of gas too soon. Read Review

Dark Void delivers a ground breaking combination of fast paced vertical combat mixed with mid-air and on-foot action.

Something is consuming our universe, a vast and ancient force almost beyond our comprehension. Millions of years ago, the minions of that power found their way to the 3rd planet of an unremarkable yellow star. Ours. The race they created came to call their masters "The Watchers." For millennia we knew them as gods and served their dark purposes, but a few humans developed extraordinary powers. They were known as the Adepts and they rose up, banishing The Watchers into a parallel universe, where they've manipulated and schemed from afar. Until now.

Dark Void Review

PC Reviews | Jan 19, 2010

If you're a fan of comics, or of retro culture in general, you may remember "The Rocketeer," the Dave Stevens series of the 1980s -- or the 1991 movie that was adapted from it. Capcom's Dark Void, by contrast, is a story set in the late 1930s that follows a brash, headstrong pilot, who gets hold of a rocket pack invented by an aging engineer, and uses it to fight aliens. And they say Hollywood is unoriginal. Read More »

Dark Void's Delay Explained

PC News | Aug 20, 2009

When Dark Void was delayed to 2010, many were left wondering why its release was put on hold. According to Kotaku, the reason for delay was to add one new feature, and to make the game less penalizing in air-combat. Shana T. Bryant, Capcom associate producer, explained that the new feature is a hover mode that allows you to float in mid-air, while slowly drifting to the ground. The team made the decision in light of making Dark Void a more tactical shooter, but also had to rework the game to make sure the new feature didn't make the title too easy.

Another tweak that can be attributed to the delay was the axing of a gameplay tenet Kotaku dubbed, "Death By Touching." In earlier builds of Dark Void, players were instantly killed when their air-craft collided with any surface in the game. Now, you can collide with the world without instantly dieing, but you will sustain damage.
