World consumption of fish in terms of per capita fish consumption has been increasing steadily from an average of 9.9kg in the 1960s to 11.5kg in the 1970s to 12.5kg in the 1980s to 14.4 kg in 1990s to 16.4kg in 2005. The global increase in fish consumption is consistent with the increase in food consumption trends worldwide.
