Doi Tung Mountain

Doi Tung Mountain is located in Chiang Rai province, the northernmost province of Thailand . It is one of the peaks of the Nang Non range, which stretches along the Thai-Myanmar border less than 100 kilometers away from China . It is part of the area called the Golden Triangle, once famous for growing, manufacturing, using, and trafficking opium and heroin. Doi Tung Mountain ( Flag Peak ) inherited its name in the early 10th century, when King Achutarat ordered a large flag to be flown above the peak. The flag was to mark the spot of the two chedis that still exist there.

Doi Tung

Often called “Thailand's Little Switzerland” , Doi Tung Mountain, with an elevation of 1,800 meters (5,940 feet) above sea level is the highest mountain in Chiang Rai Province. This description seems apt when viewing the crisp line of the mountain in the cool winter season, or when the mist and clouds of the rainy season roll in above the verdant forest against a background of an ever-changing sky.

Doi Tung High Mountain Oolong teas grow in elevation ranging from 1,200 to 1,400 meters (3,960 feet to 4,620 feet). The combination of climate and soil conditions at the Doi Tung Mountainsides are ideal for growing great quality Certified Organic High Mountain Oolongs. The sharp differences in day and night temperatures allow the tea plants to grow more slowly, thus developing more aroma and sweetness while the abundant clouds and mist surrounding the mountain allow the tea leaves to absorb more moisture.
