“New” Al-Toy Truck

UPDATE: Barney nots that this may be the original paint color. That makes me happier!

This was the first chance I had at getting an Al-Toy truck, so I snagged it off ebay in the last few seconds. It seems pretty original, other than the phone number on the side. The truck has a great weight and is slightly longer than the jeeps.

Here it is pictured with my 2 CJ-2A Al-Toys:

Congrats Dave. I agree with Mike. But I’ll take it a step further. That looks like original paint on top of primer, otherwise everything would have been unriveted and separated including tailgate and axles to do as thorough a paint as I’m seeing.

Thanks .. Oh .. I think I am wrong about the paint. I thought that given the writing on the side that maybe someone added a layer of paint (given the peeling). That’s why it’s good to have smarter people than I around 🙂

Did some searching back in my archives and found a photo of Glenn Byron’s Hershey table from a few years back and one of the photos shows a green Al-Toy pickup, and there have been a few that have showed up in the green color, so I believe the green color is original to this truck.

I have the same truck in a deep red with yellow hubs wheels. It was my grandfathers who worked at the Willys Overland in late 30’s and into 40’s. If I’m not too bold.. What kind of price was being asked when you purchased? I’ve looked a few times but never saw another, till now.

also the scuff marks on the hood, showing a curve on the hood and the scuffs along the roof corners look the same as mine.. may be a feature not wear?

    Hi Mark,

As you may have guessed, these Al-toy trucks rarely hit the market. I could not say how many were built. I paid for the one above at just over $500 through an eBay auction. If in perfect condition, I would imagine it would go higher. The Jeepsters and Wagon Al-toys tend to go for more and the complete Fire jeeps go for even more.

I believe, generally, the market on these has weekened over the past decade, but there are still eager collectors out there looking for these.

    I hope that helps,
    – Dave
