Chapter 1: A Long-Expected Party, A Lego LOTR Series

Micah Schmidt is back with a new entry in their The Lord of the Rings Lego Series. They have set upon a long journey of recreating the famous trilogy with Lego MOCs, one chapter at a time. This build is titled “Chapter 1: A Long-Expected Party” and features Gandalf rolling into the Shire with a bunch of fireworks. On a short hillside, Frodo is there to greet him. This is an interesting build, as Lego released an official set based on this exact moment all the way back in 2012. This version is an upgraded and much more detailed build. Some of the stand out details include the horse bridle (created with some Lego grippy ropes, and a rubber band), the wagon (using Lego whips as wooden detailing), the super smooth autumn tree, and Gandalf’s sword Glamdring. Hopefully Gandalf can make it to Bag End in time, there is about to be a birthday party that no one will ever forget.

Not A Lot Of Studs On This Stud – A Lego Horse MOC

“The Stud” is a Lego MOC created by Henjin_Quilones. The build is an entry into the Iron Forge where Minifigure Legs/Pants are used in unexpected ways. This Lego horse is also inspired by another contest, Style It Up, where the challenge is to build something with no exposed studs. The end result is a majestic Mustang rearing up over a rocky terrain. In the finished build there are a lot of creative Lego pieces and techniques used. Check out the Minifigure Legs as cactuses, the brown Lego frog around the eyes, and the big black flame pieces as part of the tail. The horse is an excellent example of SNOT techniques. The overall shape and design of this build is spot on, and the attention to detail really stand out.

The Pegasus Automaton. A Lego Kinetic Sculpture.

An Automaton is a movable mechanical kinetic device, usually imitating humans. These machines were extremely popular from 1860–1910. Some of them had very basic movements, such as arms/limbs, but others were much more complicated. The best Automatons could write, speak, serve tea, and sing. Amida, of BrickLink, created their own Lego Pegasus Automaton. A kinetic sculpture created entirely out of Lego. By turning a single gear, this graceful beast can flap its wings, move its tail, and pivot its body. All these movements come together in a pretty lifelike animation of flying. The white, brown, gray, and gold color palette, and some of the small details (the crystal knob) create a piece that could fit into any Jules Verne, or Steam Punk collection. Pablo Picasso’s Guernica in Lego

It is Pablo Picasso’s 133rd birthday today, and in celebration Veronica Watson recreated Picasso’s Guernica in Lego. Using just 800 black, gray, and white Lego bricks. The biggest difference is the size, the Lego version is 7 inches by 14.5 inches; while the original Picasso is an impressive 137 inches by 305 inches. All the main details are represented. The bull, the horse, the eyeball like light, and the various tortured humans are all recreated in Lego. Veronica Watson is a Lego Master Model Builder from Legoland Discovery Center Westchester.

Happy Lego Lunar New Year

Happy Lunar New Year. The year of the Horse is ready to begin. Flickr user Ryoutachan22 posted this super cute collection of the 12 Zodiac signs. Believe it or not, these were built by a 7 year old. Which, puts my own building skills to shame. These cute animals are a great example of how much variety you can achieve with only one shape (sphere).

Can you can match up the Rat, Cow, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Bird, Dog, and Boar with their Lego representation?

New Lego Friends Sets – 2014

A whole lot of new Lego sets have been revealed. Including seven new Lego Friends sets for 2014. Between these, and the new Disney Princess theme, the Lego Friends section is going to very popular next year. Besides these, there will be a variety of smaller sets that have not be announced yet. The main theme for this release seems to be focusing on outdoor activities.

Lego Friends Sunshine Harvest (41026) features a variety of farming stuff, including a tractor, garden, orchard tree, and roadside stand. Plus a cute dog.

Lego Friends Mia’s Lemonade Stand (41027) features one of those new Lego scooters, and an elaborate lemonade stand, which seems to take $100 bills. Lemonade sure is profitable in the Lego universe.

Lego Friends Emma’s Lifeguard Post (41028) features a lifeguard tower, and a cute dolphin.

Lego Friends Stephanie’s New Born Lamb (41029) features a tiny lamb, and a shearing shed. It looks like Stephanie and her lamb have won a few awards.

Lego Friends Heartlake Juice Bar (41035) is a pretty large juice bar, which has purple cherries, and pineapples.

Lego Friends Stephanie’s Beach House (41037) is a lovely yellow house. It comes with a wind glider, and what looks like a smartphone dock.

Lego Friends Sunshine Ranch (41039) is the mega set for the release. This ranch includes a pink barn and comes with a variety of horses, cats, chickens, and other animals.

These new Lego Friends sets will be released in 2014, and it looks like they will be out in the spring or summer. The new Lego Disney Princess theme is also being released soon, so keep an eye out.

The Lone Ranger: Cavalry Builder Set (79106) Reviewed

The Lone Ranger theme sure does have a lot of interesting sets. The Cavalry Builder Set (79106) is one of those sets that everyone wishes Lego would create for every theme. Having a full Cavalry in a wild west theme is almost essential. Who else is your collection of surly bandits and outlaws going to harass? You get three Cavalry soldiers, a cannon, a horse and the Lone Ranger. The only downside to this set is that the Lone Ranger won’t be alone for long if you buy more then one set in this theme. As an added bonus, most of these pieces (except the minifigs) can fit right in with a Pirate theme.
