Primoz Roglic celebrates 'crazy' fourth Vuelta a Espana win but wants more - 'It's never enough'

Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe rider Primoz Roglic won a fourth Vuelta a Espana on Sunday in Madrid, when he took second spot in the time trial. Stefan Kung won on the day, but the 34-year-old Slovenian remained top of the standings in the general classification. Speaking to Eurosport after his win, he entertained the possibility of winning for a fifth time in the future.

Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) reflected on a “crazy” achievement after winning his fourth Vuelta a Espana on Sunday evening.

On Saturday, the 34-year-old Slovenian strengthened his grasp on the lead and a time trial on Sunday in Stage 21 meant there was little chance he would lose his general classification advantage.

Until he crossed the line, though, nothing was certain, and he achieved his fourth win at the Grand Tour after victories in 2019, 2020 and 2021 - taking the victory by 2'26'' from Ben O'Connor (Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale).

Like the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France this year, the last Grand Tour of the season was won by a Slovenian, with his great rival Tadej Pogacar picking up the other two titles.

In Madrid, the stage went to Stefan Kung, but Roglic was impressive in second place on the day.

After the race, Roglic celebrated the hard work at the end of the competition.

He told Eurosport: “It was, the more you go to an end, you want to finish it off. It was tough. Everything was fine. I was first, so [I'm] happy.”

Turning to Kung’s win, he was impressed by his performance, saying: “I saw it, we all know. He's strong in these kinds of time trials.

"For me, I try to motivate myself with 'I have to go for it' or it's even harder. I pushed, it was hard, but I want to congratulate him. It was a good job.

“He was incredibly strong today, I was just enjoying it.”

Asked if the idea of a fifth victory at the Vuelta appealed to him, the veteran said he wanted to focus on this year’s triumph - for now.

He said: “It's never enough, so far it's crazy. Already four, I just want to enjoy it.”
