But that's not to say I didn't take some risks!

Frost In May
Round here this is not uncommon, but I think many have been caught out. It was quite a hard one and even froze the puddles.

Home Grown Plugs
The other day I posted some pictures on my twitter of my hull less oats being planted.
I've planted these as plugs. But plugs I grew myself.

False Spring
The warm spell of weather we had a few weeks ago lured everyone into a thinking that spring had arrived, but it seems we're a long way from it yet with the weather we've been having this week.
But I love this time of year and all the prep that goes into the spring that's just around the corner. Everything is just getting ready to burst!

Spring - Lots Going On
I'll do another video next week of all things going on in the garden as it's all picking up pace and a walk around might be the best way to show what I'm up to.
The small greenhouse is getting full of seeds and tubers. I've pricked out loads of tomatoes and I have big plans to grow some outside this year as well as in the greenhosue.
Last night I managed to get the rotovator started again (it still wasn't easy) and I had a Friday evening working the soil on Long Furrows down (That's the name I'm going with until we come up with something else!). Not sure how most people spend their Friday nights but I was happy!Outside for the first time in two years! |
Making a start |
Worked down well |
Quite a fine tilth for just a couple of passes with the rotovator. |
I was really impressed with the soil in this plot, it worked down easy and didn't take too long to do. It produced a really fine tilth, all I need to do now is add some muck to the plots and then give it one last going over with the rotovator. hopefully I'll get my young trees into a nursery plot during this next week, once it's rabbit wired that is!
Plenty to do! what are you busy on at the moment?
(Also if you have a facebook account click on my link at the side and like my page, that way you can have updates of all the things I do as a lot doesn't make it to the blog (although I completely understand if this is enough of me for you!))

Planting Tomatoes
I had planned to plant my tomatoes and peppers in my little window sill propagator today but the weather has put me off, after spending a morning cutting up firewood in the rain.
I always worry at this time of year that I'm not starting plants early enough, it's a fine balance between planting too early and having to keep big plants out of the frost (my greenhouse is unheated) or planting too late and missing out on early veg. I'm going to plant mine one day this week I think.
So a question to you all - when do you plant your tomato and pepper seeds? Do you try to be super early with lots of moving plants around to miss the cold or do you leave it a little longer and not notice any difference? Or does your climate provide other options?
