about

EhonChan_HiResEhon Chan

I have passion for people who are inspired to create change and catalysing the possibilities through connecting people with the right ideas with resources, experiences, wisdom & knowledge they need.

I observe the world and create new ways of doing things or new things to make a better world. I get excited by emerging technologies and new media, especially harnessing the power of technology and its impact to create meaningful values.

I've worked as a strategist, catalyst and educator for some great organisations such as Foundation for Young Australian's Centre for New Public Education, the Queensland Government Department of Communities, and Virgin Unite Australia. In 2014, I was invited back to Malaysia to join the Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) and that's where I am now.

If you'd like to work together, get in touch.

You can also find me on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook  if you're into that.

"... the brain behind the blasphemy." -- The Age, December 2011

Having experienced first hand the inequalities life and society can bring, Ehon's motivation is simple and compelling. He has passion for creating opportunities through connecting people, capital, and ideas to solve our world’s most pressing social and environmental issues. He’s the brainchild of the Malaysian Social Enterprise Blueprint launched by the Prime Minister of Malaysia in 2015, and has been instrumental in the incubation of at least 70 social enterprises in Malaysia.

As a serial entrepreneur, Ehon has had both successes and failures with enterprises he's co-founded. In 2009, he co-founded News Unlimited, Brisbane's leading digital entertainment magazine, and in 2010, he co-founded Youth Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation (YES) Brisbane, the city's first incubator program for young entrepreneurs and changemakers in partnership with Visible Ink and Brisbane City Council (destroyed during the Queensland Flood). In 2011, he co-founded TeacherTime, a company that builds collaborative technologies for educators. In the same year, he joined Hub Melbourne, a coworking community driving innovation through collaboration, as a consultant, and in 2012, he formed the founding team of Hub Australia, cofounding Hub Sydney (opened May 2013) and led the fundraising of AUD1million seed funding for Hub Adelaide (opened September 2013).

Ehon's founded and been involved in numerous campaigns and community development projects including multi-award winning campaigns like Soften the Fck Up, a male suicide prevention campaign, To Mama With Love, a Mother's Day fundraiser which raised over $300,000 to invest in 6 change-makers around the world, and "We Can Help Us", a $4million nationwide (USA) mental health promotion campaign in collaboration with Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Inspire USA Foundation & the Ad Council.

He is currently a Board Member of Montessori International College, the Global Advisory Board for Movember Foundation, the world’s largest men’s health charity, and Advisor to numerous social enterprises. He was an Advisory Board member for Bendigo & Adelaide Bank’s PlanBig and StartSomeGood, the world’s leading crowdfunding site for social ventures, and the Chairman of the World Happiness Forum 2014. In 2014, he was appointed by the Prime Minister of Australia as a Steering Committee for the G20 Youth Summit.

Although far from his mind, his effort and contribution to social change has won him numerous awards and accolades such as Prestige's Top40Under40, Suicide Prevention Australia's "LIFE Award", The Age's "Top 100 Most Influential People", Australia Trade Commission's "Top 30 Digital Influencer", Shoe String Magazine's "Young and Influential" and "Top 25 Social Entrepreneurs", and GOOD Magazine's "GOOD 100 People Moving the World Forward" which includes the likes of Kirsten Bell, Oprah Winfrey and Bill Clinton.
