Designer's Notes: Washi Tape and I have a handshake agreement... it sits still and looks pretty on my display and I leave it in peace, untouched! Don't get me wrong, I love washi tape, but I love looking at it more and have a hard time convincing myself that it needs to be used. So when we were challenged to 'use' our washi tape in a creative way I decided it was time to break with tradition and really 'let go' and start unrolling those gorgeous tapes.

I laid a bed of washi tape down the page to create the background for the little scene and then hand-stitched the finer details over the top of the tape.

Rainbow Brite

Designer's Note: I wanted to create an entire layout using primarily washi tape! This is so easy to do with the fun and bright colors that Doodlebug has! Some techniques I used:

• To create the Rainbow, I used my die cut machine to cut out a rainbow on white cardstock. I then wrapped each section of the rainbow with a different color.
• I cut small banners of various lengths in the same rainbow colors and added them to the top and bottom of my layout.
• I used the red polka dot tape to create a border on both sides of the layout. To do this, I added the tape to white cardstock, and then used my border punch on the taped cardstock.

Some other ideas to note:

• I added twine in the same rainbow of colors.
• I added the same button colors on top of the banners.
• I added some Doodlebug flocking and pearls to give the clouds some added texture.

Washi Tape Week: Tutorial Tuesday x Two

Chevron Washi Tape Card

Hi y'all!  Today I am sharing a photo tutorial on how to create a chevron pattern using washi tape.  It is super easy and only requires a few steps.  Check it out--

Making your own custom chevron design is super easy.  Here is how I did it: 

1. Cut two 6"x6" pieces of cardstock and affix your first piece of washi tape from corner to corner. 

2. Continue layering strips of washi tape until the entire piece of paper is covered.  Repeat with the second 6"x6" square.  

3. Trim excess washi tape or fold over the edges.  Turn one square 90 degrees.  Do not skip this step! 

4. Cut both squares into 1" strips and piece strips together to form a chevron.  Do this on your work surface before adhering to your card base.

5. Apply adhesive to card front and adhere chevron strips to front of card.  

6. Trim excess strips from front of card.

Now you have a custom chevron card base that you can embellish as you please.

Washi Tape Storage

Designer Note: I thought it would be fun to show you how I store my doodlebug washi tape.  I have a ribbon carousel (http://ribboncarousel.com/) that was designed to hold spools of ribbon.  I have plenty of ribbon, but I don't use it as much as I find myself using washi tape (and baker's twine) these days.  So I moved my ribbon to another spot and put all of my fun, bright, colorful doodlebug washi tape and doodle twine on the carousel.  It's easy to see all of my options at a glance without having to dig through a basket or bin.  I also love that I can just tear off however much I need without having to remove the spool from it's storage container.  Not only is it super functional, it looks so fun sitting on my work desk and it makes me happy every time I see it!

CHA Summer 2013 Show Recap

We just returned from CHA and we had a wonderful time at CHA's Connect & Create Summer Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. We snapped a few pictures to share with you since we know you all wished you could be there having a goofy time with us (we wish you could too).

Don't worry too much about not being able to see all these darling samples...we'll be sharing close-ups of them soon on the blog...but we couldn't resist sharing them with you now...because they really made our booth super cute!!

We feel bad we didn't snap some close-up pictures of the darling samples we displayed of our Home for the Holiday's Collection. It was a huge hit with our retail store partners. But like we mentioned above, we will be showing some clear (not behind glass) photos of these soon here on the blog. 

One last thing...be sure to watch for an announcement of a few videos that Cynthea filmed at the show featuring the new products shown. She doesn't like doing videos but we know you all LOVE watching her and getting to know her better. Here's some snap shots of the filming (she rocked it)!!

8x8 Project Life & Mini Album Inspiration

Today we're mixing up...or I should say down, since we're featuring some amazing ideas with the 8x8 page protectors. The first sample by Sherry is from her "Vacation" album and it's a great way to feature her memories of visiting as many National Parks as they can in her area. And we loved Jodi's inspiration for a Back to School almost "December Daily" style album. You could even create this album in advance and drop in your photos as they are taken throughout the year. Teddy's Storybook Album

I'm finally getting around to putting together Teddy's baby album and although he's only 16 months old it seems like years since he was born. Fortunately I wrote lots of information down at the time as I'd never remember it all now.

I decided to use the 8x8 Storybook Album as I felt the smaller size would be more appropriate for a baby's album and it meant that I could still print out full 8x8 photos on my home printer. And I had a little play with the cover of my album by adding some rubons to give it a personal touch.

The rub-ons took a little extra 'rubbing' to make them stick but once they are on, they stay on!

The opening page I chose to use a full 8x8 protector as I wanted Teddy's first photo to take up the whole page with just a hint of embellishments for some added detail.

I used the flipside of the 8x8 protector to write a little story for Teddy to read in years to come of how he was such a surprise. I used the big quotation marks from the 'this & that' cardstock stickers that you find in different colors with each collection.

Page three configuration was perfect for adding a vertical picture of the pregnancy test and a print-out of the announcement I made to family and friends on facebook, along with some of their lovely comments.
