Quote art and the new FB layout

Lately, since the FB layout change, it seems like some people are posting photos a lot more. Things they find funny, quotes they find meaningful, but since my friends list has a lot of overlap, that means that I get the same photos on my newsfeed sometimes 3 or 4 times in a day.

So rather than reposting things that lots of people are posting, I decided to start making my own illustrated quotes and posting them to my wall. I'm making them all 4x6 inches and decent quality. So if you'd like to print them for mini-posters, locker posters or even postcards, you can.

Here are the quotes I have so far. Click on the images for larger versions.

"I'm not going to change the way I look or the way I feel to conform to anything. I've always been a freak. So I've been a freak all my life and I have to live with that, you know. I'm one of those people."
-John Lennon
Public FB link if you want to share it on your wall is here.

"The trick is not how much pain you feel - but how much joy you feel. Any idiot can feel pain. Life is full of excuses to feel pain, excuses not to live, excuses, excuses, excuses."
-Erica Jong
Public FB link to share this on your own wall is here.

"Chains do not hold a marriage together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads which sew people together through the years."
-Simone Signoret
Public FB link to share to your own wall here.

"The morning cup of coffee has an exhilaration about it which the cheering influence of the afternoon or evening cup of tea cannot be expected to reproduce."
-Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

I hope you enjoy these quotes as much as I do.

Dandelions part 1 and a bonus

This is actually sort of a grab bag. I'm planning to make some dandelion recipe cards because I'm sort of dandelion obsessed right now, and because knuckstermom mentioned dandelion wine in the comments. But while I was working out designs, I drew something that I thought would be a good coloring page, and some art I'm just not sure if I like it or not. Looking at my templates, I found an old 100 dpi one that I don't use anymore, so that's getting posted as well.
The colored art is 300 dpi. The template and coloring page are both 100 dpi. Click on the images for the full sized versions. Feel free to add text to the art for personal use only, maybe something about wishes if you wish on dandelions!

Winged Heart art for digital scrapping

Okay, I'm done playing with that heart for now. So here it is for any digital scrappers who want to make tags or other things with it. 300 dpi, transparent PNG format. Click on the images for the full sized versions.

Some matching background tiles. These are 1 inch x 1 inch except for the dotted tile which is a half inch by a half inch. PNG format. The dots are transparent so you can put them over the stripes if you'd like.

Dad update- He's home from the hospital, and feeling a lot better.
Car update- Still not fixed
Birthday plans- I've had a cake from the same bakery every year since I was 12. This year I *will* have my cake, but it will be a week or two late.  My daughter is planning to bake a small cake for the day of, and Mike's planning on grilling one of my favorites for dinner. Best present of course is just that dad's home and that he's going to be okay.  I'm also planning to post the recipe for the cake I made for my mom's 40th birthday here. It's sort of like a Versunkener Apfelkuchen, but with some modifications because I didn't have all the ingredients on hand that first time. Mom loved my variation better than the original recipe that I was working from and it's still a family favorite.

The Doctor Is IN printable art and coloring page

I know my family isn't the only one who is really looking forward to the new episodes of Doctor Who. If you've been considering a party, or if you are as Doctor crazy as my daughter, you might enjoy this printable art or the coloring version. Both are 300 dpi below. The version above is at 25%.
Instead of making them 8x10, I made them 8x10.5 so they will have a quarter inch border using US letter sized paper.
Click on the images for the full sized versions. For the one I printed for my daughter, I used a nice decorative paper vintage looking sheet from my stash. The font used is The League Of Moveable Type's Chunk.

Mardi Gras printables

Well, I was planning to color in the shamrock after I finished another idea. But that other idea turned into this mask and took longer than expected.
The printable art and box are both 300 ppi, the coloring pages are 100 ppi. Click on the images for the full sized versions. I included a mask with feathers but no decoration if you wanted to decorate it yourself. I also did just the feathers because I thought it looked neat.

Rabbit printables

I drew this rabbit and tree for the current Spoonflower contest, Year of the Rabbit. It's voting now if you want to go look at LOTS of rabbit themed fabrics and vote. I'd really appreciate the votes if you vote for mine!
The name of the design is Elephant Under a Pineapple. Because while I was working on it, I asked my son how it looked. He said it looked good, in a whimsical mood I asked "So you can tell it's an elephant under a pineapple?" Later, asking my husband the same question he said "Your elephant looks like a rabbit." And I said "What about the pineapple?" and he replied "I can totally tell that's a pineapple, but your elephant looks like a rabbit."

Click on the images for the full sized versions, the box and the printable art are both 300 ppi. The coloring page (which can also be used for embroidery) is 100 ppi.

Martin Luther King Jr. printable quote

With Martin Luther King Jr. Day coming up soon, I wanted to make something to celebrate this amazing man and his life. The quote I picked is one that also reminds me of my mother because it's something she said a lot as well. "Life's most persistent and urgent question is 'What are you doing for others?'".
First I made this printable art piece, it's 300 ppi and will print out at 8x10 inches. Click on the image for the full sized version and feel free to re-color it.

Then I decided that I wanted to do a coloring page with the same quote and worked on this yesterday. Drawing the frame was a lot of fun. Click on the image for the full sized version.

Peace symbols

My darling husband totally surprised me with a Yudu machine for Christmas. Honestly, I was expecting a bottle of perfume or possibly a new Nano. But there it was, huge and wonderful.
So while I'm waiting to go to the craft store and get more emulsion sheets and screens for it, I've been working on ideas for the single emulsion sheet and screen that came with it, deciding what to print for that first screen is hard!
One thing I've been wanting is to make more peace symbol shirts. My kids love them, but like me, don't like mass produced shirts. So, this is some of the art I've been working on. It's in GIF format and 2 colors because it's for silk screening eventually. You can use it as you wish. Except you know.. mass producing shirts for very low wages in countries that don't protect human rights. Since it is a 2 color gif, it would be easy to remove the white background and use them for digital stamping. Or print it to color if you wish. My son loves the faux bois effects best so that's in the near future.
Click on the images for the full sized versions.

I also posted some digital delivery 1 inch circles with peace symbols on them in my Etsy shop
Here's an example at full size. 300 dpi, on your monitor it will show a bit bigger than it's meant to print!

Pipe Cleaner Master

Locally, we have an artist named Kenneth S. William who is the Pipe Cleaner Master. So his site says, and so I have to agree. We first saw him in a news story, and we were stunned by the sheer number of things surrounding him that he made, and how fast his fingers were twisting colored pipe cleaners into bright pretty sculpture.
Today we had the pleasure of seeing him work in person, unfortunately, I didn't bring my camera to really get good pictures, but as we looked at his amazing creations and talked to him about them, he was twisting a Garfield.
And wow.. the creations. There was Martin Luther King Jr., Wakko, Yakko and Dot, there were Marvel and DC (but unfortunately no Nightwing, what's up with THAT?), flowers, football helmuts, all amazingly detailed in pipe cleaners. They piled high, fuzzy wonderful creations.
Mike and I knew were going to buy at least, and Mike had his eye on Spiderman and Venom, both of which had removable masks, so you could see Eddie Brock and Peter Parker under the masks, but we were on a budget, so we could only afford one. Mike wanted to get one for me, and wow.. umm.. between Gonzo and Wonder Woman? I finally decided on Wonder Woman.

Isn't that detail great? The stars, the red red lips and blue eyes and red button earrings. All his work shows that attention to detail.
You can contact him and see more of his work here.
That's my daughter posing with Wonder Woman.
