SUSTAINABILITY

AT BNY

BNY plays an important role in the global financial system, and that foundation drives our approach to sustainability. We manage our firm with a focus on resilience, and we operate to enable a more inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and trusted financial system. We empower our clients and partners with solutions to meet their own sustainability objectives and to advance a more inclusive economy.

2023 Sustainability Report

BNY has published our annual sustainability report highlighting progress made on advancing the sustainability of our operations, enabling our clients and partners to meet their own sustainability objectives and building a more inclusive economy. The report also outlines priorities for 2024 and is guided by reporting frameworks including Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB).

Our Strategy and Vision

Our sustainability strategy follows two paths: helping our clients and partners meet their sustainability and community goals through the products and services we offer and managing our own operations with a focus on resilience. We are finding ways to be more for our clients and partners in their own sustainability journeys across all of our lines of business.

Technological Resilience

Information security and resilience to cyberattacks represent a key intersection of societal needs and BNY business priorities.

The Importance of the Employee

Employee issues such as diversity & inclusion, talent attraction, retention and development, and gender pay equity can help differentiate BNY in an increasingly competitive business environment.

Sustainability Strategy Focus Areas

We built our sustainability strategy to align with the priorities of our company, clients, employees and communities. Our commitment to sustainability drives how we work with clients and partners to build a more inclusive economy; how we support clients in achieving their sustainability objectives; and guides the way we run our firm, including how we engage with stakeholders and continue to earn clients’ trust.

Defining Sustainability at BNY

Sustainability continues to evolve as a discipline. To facilitate understanding, we offer our interpretation of three key terms below.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability refers to the ability of a company to responsibly maintain resources and relationships as well as manage its dependencies and impacts within business ecosystems over the short-, medium- and long-term.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

The responsible management of natural resources to fulfill current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.

BELONGING AND INCLUSION

The cultivation of an environment where people feel welcome to bring their different perspectives to bear on solving problems, and where they are treated fairly.

We believe that applying a sustainability approach across our enterprise, leveraging the rich diversity of our people, driving responsible business practices and strengthening communities directly supports BNY’s mission and our clients.”
