I can't get any worse.
I woke up this evening (after a long nap), and went to take a shower. I took a nice long warm shower, and then came out and was surprised that the room door was closed and the room was dark (I think, or were the lights on, I'm not even sure anymore.)
Then I proceeded to (turn on the lights if it wasn't on) dry my hair blablabla. And then I walked out of the room and "Eh? Miss Tan not at home? She went out ha.".
But it was normal if she went out for a short while, maybe to the laundry, maybe to Diong's room, maybe down to get some things from somebody from the foyer. But then I sat here, for like 15 minutes to half an hour or so, and I'm like...eh...where's this girl? I look to my right (where she normally sits) and uh oh. I notice her keys. Did she forget her keys?
So I asked Diong, eh do you know where she is? And he's like "nop".
And that was when I realised why the room door was closed. I opened it, looked into the room, and there she was, peacefully sleeping under the covers.
Oh, and happy independence, my beloved home country!

Canberra turning into Gotham?
I recently heard this saddening piece of news.
Apparently a lecturer was assaulted by a person (I'm guessing student) with a knife late one day around 8.30pm.
The outcome, I do not know, but the lecturer was not harmed (not seriously, anyway).
But the fact that these things are happening, that I now have to watch my back while I travel the safe streets of Canberra, I do not like. I love this place, for the security it provides me, for the safe environment, amongst many other things.
And if one day, should it turn unsafe like big cities such as Sydney or KL, I might fled town and run to an even more remote area. And THAT is something I definitely do NOT look forward to.
=(

So cute.
The other day, CP came back to Canberra, to say hi and to pick up some more of her stuff (I think).
She came with Kenny from Melbourne, and they drove here in a cute little Smart car, full of advertisements!!
But I've never actually seen a Smart car up close with people in them. I usually see them parked by the road or driving by.
And whilst I didn't have long to bond with CP during her extremely short visit, or long to say "HI!" to Kenny who was driving, or long to admire the cute car as there were cars coming behind, I DID manage to get this (and CP might just hate me for putting it up *wink*) :

Haha! So ngam!
These few days I've been running around searching for extra jobs due to my extremely high load of expenses from the payment of airfares.
And then I sleep really late, as my time at home is spent working on my huge amounts of assignments that continue to pile up.
And as I am trying to give my head a rest from reading my Sociology brick, I decided to flip through the comics in the papers today.
I browsed through them, and then decided to have a look at the horoscope. And that was when I had a little giggle:
"As financial issues affect Taurean emotions at the moment, it is likely you will do as much as you can to bring in a more satisfactory income. Efforts should bring results."
I can't wait for the "results"! =)

Sigh...
I just came across another blog post defaming the effort put in for Malam Gemilang.
At this point, I really can't be too bothered anymore. The event is past and gone, what's done is done.
But sometimes, I just don't get it. Oh, and gosh this person complained oh-so-much about nothing, which makes it much much worse than xxx, I dare even say. On that note, thank you xxx for your apologies and for your acknowledgement of the effort put in.
And, truly, sometimes I think people do NOT deserve what they're getting.
Having read the many loads of comments on that post alone, I guess I'm not alone in thinking so. But I did have a good laugh.

In reply.
Dear xxx :
If Malam Gemilang only meant Malaysian food buffet to you, I don't know how you have the right to be criticising all else.
It was a night to celebrate our independence, you said so yourself, and yet if you went only for the food, where do your loyalties lie? Where do your priorities lie?
If you put Ursula Ball above a celebration of the independence of your country, and couldn't even muster up the effort to dress up for it, tell me, where do you stand on giving out comments about how the night turned out.
The opening video was not meant to be confusing, if you did even mildly listened to what the MCs said. It was meant to showcase our cultural diversity, a mix of what our country has to offer, a mix, a blend, a confusion - in that sense, of the wonders of how we come together as a country.
Non-existent mic problems, my dear friend, is something that is an externality. As students we do not have our own top notch PA systems. We rely on what our tight budget can get us, and for what we had that night, I thought it pretty well.
Yes, your sources were right, it was the FIRST time, for us all to be on stage to sing "Here in my home", but try gathering all those people at one venue at one time. As a student yourself, I'm sure you're aware of what commitments we have to our studies, to our assignments, to our classes. And personally, aside from the forgotten lines, and save my horrendous try at rapping, I'd say we managed to show our unity, as a group of Malaysians, as a group of friends.
Shoddy deco. Again. We were on a tight budget. Unlike ISD decorations, which definitely didn't look like it was their own effort (not a negative comment), ours were at least our own effort, our own hard work. Be supportive of your fellow student friends. Take the time out to appreciate that they spent time working on those decorations amongst the loads of uni works that they had to deal with.
To err is human. To forget lines, when you're a narrator and have an entire story to tell, is normal. Normal narrators do not even appear on stage, and have the entire script right in front of them. Heck, I as the MC couldn't even remember a single line of my own. And Akram took the trouble to memorise 90% of his lines. Does his forgetting one line tarnish his remembering his 100 others? No. But apparently in your eyes, it does.
While it wasn't supposed to be that much of a casual event, it WAS meant to be a comedic Malaysian show. And if you didn't get that, well, you're the one who's lost. Or did you not notice the many comedic acts we put in? Did you not notice the funny acts? And costumes are supposed to complete the act, not make it formal. How else would you play a part of the Sultan if you don't dress up as one? How else would you show support for your fellow mates if you don't even bother to dress formally for a formal event when it's strictly stated that the dress code is formal/traditional?
Curtain failures. If it's one of our worst faults, I must definitely commend Akram for making it hilarious. He definitely turned what could be a panic attack into one of a light mood, one that entertained the crowd - entertainment is called so for a reason.
More so, an event run and managed by a student body, on a tight budget, CANNOT, IN ANY SENSE, be compared to an Olympic event, which would definitely be supported by the government and the country. Try scaling things down a little, to a more sensible scale at least.
And just to be a pest, it was $49. The committee did NOT charge you that extra dollar, just so more people would come. But NO, many did not even bother to show their support for their country. Their reasoning - I spent lots of money during the holidays. I went to the International Ball so I don't have any more money for this. One of these were your own words.
Tell me, how do we shape up and be capable of better when many of you won't even show your support for your friends, lest your country.
My dear friend, before you comment about others, do reflect upon your own actions first.
Do realise that this is not so much of a comeback to your post, but more of a voice for those who worked hard. And more so a reply in the hope that you realise the amount of effort they put into everything and appreciate them for it. You're right in the sense that we can be better, but we've all got to start somewhere. And now, we can learn from our mistakes. =)

A night of blunders and wardrobe malfunction.
That night was last night. The night of Malam Gemilang.
Of which I was one of two hosts for the evening.
Of which I embarrassed myself on stage.
Of which I first sang in front of a crowd.
Of which I first rapped, like ever - quite a failure I must add.
Of which I forged many closer friendships.
Of which I learnt that racism in Malaysia manages to spread itself to Australia through it's supposed dignitaries.
Of which I learnt that no matter how hard I try I can't please everyone.
Of which I learnt that I TRULY TRULY have ZERO luck in raffles.
Of which I paid a hefty price to be hungry and heat up a cold pie once I reached home.
Of which I realised sometimes things are just not meant to be.
But I had good fun. I definitely did.

Gifted.
I came across an IQ test on a friend's Facebook profile page, so I decided to go do one.
I googled and found a site with a free IQ test. So I did it.
The result: my IQ is 134...which translates to Gifted, of which only 2.3% of the test takers achieve.
I tembak-ed the last two answers, so I also don't know whether those two were right.
But ahahahha! Gifted! Fuiyohhh...

Support!
I am currently the Finance Director of a YAA-created company named Flamboyant Design.
We are a group of students who came together to start up this company which has decided to sell Christmas cards. Should other festivities come up, we might cater for those as well. We provide our own unique designs as well as printing, all at an affordable cost.
Having been appointed the Finance Director (not so much of being appointed, more like I ran for it and then got it) I am accountable for the company's finances. As if that wasn't obvious enough.
Anyway, I would appreciate all of the support that you can offer to my company. If you would like to purchase a share, contact me and you can get one share for a measly cost of two dollars! You are allowed to purchase up to 25 shares if you wish.
Better yet, be a shareholder, and be a customer as well! As soon as our products are available to market, I will inform you of any opportunities that are available for you to have a look at these beautifully designed cards and buy some for yourself!
So, let me know if you would like to express interest in being a shareholder. And let your friends know too! But not too many though...because the more shareholders, the less profit there is to go around.
Support for Flamboyant Design is support towards the community, as we have plans to contribute a percentage of our proceeds towards charitable causes.
All in all, it's a good cause, whether it is to help the community or to help me. *wink*
Oh! Oh! I am also intending to run for Business Person of the Year Award. So wish me luck! =)

So so so loved...
It's times like these that I feel that I have a huge bunch of close friends, all of whom dearly care for me and think of me.
Today, having been on the ski trip, and having my knees earn brains, is a tiring day for me.
And then I come home to not only one, nor two, nor three but FOUR people all willing to cook me dinner!
First there was June, who said she was going to cook me Wa Tan Hor which is better known as Cantonese Koay Teow - the one with the egg gravy and noodles and stuff. Having told her bout my knee, she was willing to deliver it to my doorstep! But I couldn't have her do that, so Miss Tan kindly became the messenger.
Then SW tells me KH asks if I want dinner after the ski trip and that he'd cook for me. This one's more of a tough love as I had to walk to his place to enjoy that dinner. And with the knee, I kindly declined.
Then Miss Tan offers to cook me dinner even though she won't be home. She heard bout the knee and figured I'd have no dinner and was thus willing to prepare it for me before she left for her dinner elsewhere. Love you loads!
Then Kak Sha and Kak Wa call me up to offer me lasagne. This was totally out of the blue as Kak Wa just called me up and said...we cooked lasagne and wanted to offer you some! And this included delivery too! Right to the doorstep!
Left and right I had people willingly offering me food to eat and indirectly their love to share.
As my knee's brains continue growing, so does my gratitude to all my friends out there, close or not.
Thank you all of you for being so nice, for being there, and for being you.
Xin really greatly appreciates every single one of your existence.

Best dressed male...
goes to......
ME!!!
It's weird. I know. I got nominated as one of the best dressed males, and won for best dressed female. Or was it male. I'm confused.
I won the prize for the male though. And the voucher expires 30 April 2008. Yes, it was expired before the day I got it. So interesting right.
Oh. Oh. I'm talking bout International Ball 2008 - themed "Broadway". I dressed up as this producer and had the whole white shirt with vest and black slacks thing, with the hat and the moustache and goatee.
The least amount of effort ever spent on dressing up, and I won. I guess no girl was willing to draw moustache and goatee on her face. Except me.
All in all it was a passably fun night. It definitely lacked the enthused atmosphere, but TABLE THREE totally made up for it. Yes, that IS the table I was on. We were hands down the noisiest and most enthusiastic, even the MC thought so.
The MCs were great, especially Sham. They knew how to draw in the crowd and keep us entertained. (I wish I am half as good as he was.)
Again, raffles came to...nothing. No surprise there. Money down the drain, but chance never liked me much anyway.
It was great fun camwhoring before and after the event itself in the many beautiful mirrors of Capital Tower.
Before:
After:

All in all, it was loads of fun, with the great company I was with. I can't wait for the ski trip and the Malam Gemilang in the coming weeks!

Xin just spent money. Again.
I just spent quite a lot of money.
As if spending on International Ball, ski trip AND Malam Gemilang did not burn a HUGE hole in my pockets, I went out and bought myself a camera, and to make it actually functional - a memory card to go with it.
So that's a spending of...49, 115, 49, 99, 17 all in a matter of less than 2 weeks. Wow. I might've beaten Becky Bloomwood flat if she didn't spend in pounds and bought superbly branded stuff.
But I call it an investment, whether it be one in my social life or one in my personal one. Investments are costly.
Sigh. I'm now creating excuses and shopping to help heal my soul. When will my rainbow appear?

Me against the world.
And another bad day came upon me.
Having woken up at 8am, I was all ready to go check my papers at 9am. Reached there at 9.06am the lady told me that not all the papers were ready and told me to wait a while.
Wait.
Wait.
Wait.
She came back bout 10-15 minutes later slowly pushing the trolley with papers on it. So I went in and asked her to help me check mine.
Check.
Check.
Check.
"Oh sorry your papers are not here. You will have to wait until another staff brings all the rest of the papers from the office."
Wah lao.
Okay. Never mind. I wait. And it was 9.25am already.
Later at bout 9.35am the other lady pushed the rest of the papers in. So I told her to check mine again.
Check.
Check.
Check.
"Oh sorry. It seems as if your papers aren't here. Maybe you should email your lecturer to have a look at your paper instead."
Wah lao.
You just wasted 40 minutes of my time and you told me I should email my lecturer? Duh I knew that already.
And the worst part on top of wasting 40 minutes was wasting an hour of work. By wasting that forty minutes waiting to see a paper that wasn't even there, I missed out on an hour's worth of work.
Quoting the Halo Friendlies "It's just me against the world and the world is winning".
In this fight against the world, I'm losing. Pretty badly. =(
