bar'ac

Visiting bar'ac was on our to do list for a while, and we went there today.
Last year, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts celebrated its 350th anniversary. It is considered one of the oldest art academies in the western world, along with Paris and Rome. The prestigious Fashion Department opened its doors three hundred years after the academy was founded. Both of these anniversaries were celebrated with exhibitions and activities.
Bar'ac is one of these activities, designed by student Jef Meyer. A handmade bar in the garden of the Academy. A temporary place to read, meet and drink.

de invasie is coming

On Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 of March, an army of young, creative warriors named De Invasie (The Invasion) will occupy the city. Antwerp is the biggest city that has ever been the home-base of De Invasie.
Over 70 young, creative warriors put up camp together with De Invasie and the City of Antwerp in the middle of the city: the previous Ethnographic Museum by the Suikerrui 19/Kaasstraat.
There is also a city course, highlighting young designers.
Go, go, go, window-shopping, this weekend!

ixelles

my dear friend L. and i visited ixelles again (as it was already 2 years ago!).
to celebrate the new year, to pick some sales, to have fun.

we started our tour at rose (rue de l'aqueduc 56), always good for gifts.
across the street they have opened a second shop: my table (rue de l'aqueduc 73-75) with food related stuff.

at moss & bros (rue de l'aqueduc 58) they have very different things, nice classic pyjama's, curiosities, clothes. i bought my son Flor a "back to the friture" hoodie, designed by bshirt (conceived, designed, manufactured by belgians for belgians, sold in belgium and the rest of the world !)

at lilycup (rue du page 65) we couldn't resist to buy some delicious cupcakes :violette! tout chocolat! carrot cake! speculoos!
every time we went into a store from then, people looked at our lilycup boxes with verrrry hungry eyes.

as we got hungry ourselves, we discovered pudding rock (rue du mail 76). as it appears, we were very lucky there was a table left for two.
the chef, Danièle explained the menu herself with so much enthusiasm that we wanted to taste everything! (as she told us, they serve a menu "tout verrines", a plate with several deli, but only on reservation).
anyway, our burger and chicken salad were yummie! as well as the dessert plate :-)

L.'s beautiful cherrie necklace

wouters & hendrix, my favorite jewelery designers also have a shop in ixelles (place georges brugmann 16). treated myself with earrings
next to w&h is also a bellerose shop (place brugmann 19), women's clothes only.

around the corner you have graphie sud (rue berkendael 195). great for gifts and clothes!

bonnie & jane (rue darwin 34) is a new shop, with vintage and clothes, we like!
across the street is also a a.p.c. (rue darwin 61).

we ended our ixelles trip at le typographe (rue américaine 76), a letterpress studio with shop (always want to buy everything there)
and zao (rue du bailli 96). a very colourful shop stuffed with clothes, presents, toys, postcards,...

here's a little map
