Monday
First lesson was Database Management [DBMS]. As we (lx and I) expected, the lecturer looks like someone who is old enough to be a granny. The lesson sounds a lot got to do with MS Access, at least from the theory she taught us. It was not engaging though, she kept repeating stuffs as though we cannot understand the concepts at all. Somehow, she reminds me of my Pri 2 Chinese teacher (Mrs Long, xianns). -.- Next was Management [MOB] tutorial. At first I thought the lecturer looked a bit proud, but it turns out to be her strong confidence. She said she is the best lecturer (she did received the Best lecturer award, 2002) and she is very enthusiastic, very vibrant (even though she might be over 50 y/o, though she 'tried' to hide the fact from us). She promised us some packed but fun turorials (we are going to learn through playing games 0.0). And she went through the first 2 tutorials fairly quickly, and let us off like more than a hour earlier, and also the tutorial on Thursday cancelled, since she already went through with us beforehand.
Which means, we will only start lessons at 2pm on Thursday! Only for this week.
After break was Java programming [JAVA], the known killer subject of the semester. 3 hours! And you can tell from the number of students having need to forward it (retain), I think our class (with Class 01) has nearly 5 of them. The first lesson was nothing much, just telling us to download the software program need (which take ages, because the wireless connection was sucky and some laptops, especially from our end, suck away some of the download speed from the rest). The lecturer also taught us a bit of simple programming and using it to output our initials. As the connection was very poor, the lecturer cannot start proper lesson and told the class to do the downloading and installation at home and let us off 1 hour+ earlier.
Tuesday
The second day is as pack as the first, somemore with the same modules, but the difference is whether they are lectures or tutorials. DBMS, as usual, want to sleep, and the teacher let us off like 40mins earlier.
The first week is just soooo slacked lah.
Then we had our first MOB lecture with another lecturer. She speaks kind of fast and like our previous accounts teacher, she is bit loud. We are suppose to do self study on our own as she wont go through every part of the notes. For the lecture, we are suppose to read up the part b on our own. >< JAVA we went through some concepts and that was it. Was let off 1h+ early yet again. I wonder with all these early let offs, will they ever be able to finish their lessons? =.=
Wednesday
Was supposed to have IDEA, but the lesson was cancelled as the teacher was on MC. WTH. This last minute notice (pasted on the classroom door) made a number of us came to school for nothing, because that is the only module for the day. People like me and lx will have to wait for 3 hours before we have our GEMS, others who are going to have it on Fri just made a wasted trip. So many of us just slacked the nearly empty library until the time comes as it is a hassle to travel here and there.
Lx and my GEMS module is Maths puzzles and games. A couple of Lx's CO mates also as the same class as us. Its basically about solving what seem impossible trick maths questions. Kinda fun. And we are suppose to have 3 group projects (30% each) and a test (10%) for the module. Open
And the lecturer also says if we just present ourselves for the lesson, we will get 3 participation marks each time, which counts into our final grade. LOL.
After GEMS I rushed to Moberly block for the monopoly challenge which the boss [Suresh] asked me to join last week. Our group was split up to compete with different people. Joy, my freshman orientation group leader was sitting opposite to me, but she doesn't recognise me. The banker was damn noisy, keep asking us to make private transactions.
At first there was a 'fight' for buying up MRT stations, one player who already has 2 stations offered to buy up another's with a fee and the other wanted to trade it with an additional piece of land. They were negotiating when I was having my turn, and one of them didnt notice that I land on her property and I just kept quiet, LOL. (The rule says that it is the responsibility for the owner to collect rent themselves, otherwise you cannot do it when another player starts). At first the banker nudge me if I wanted to buy the property (he didn't noticed it was sold) and I just gestured quietly that it belonged to someone else's, haha.
I managed to build 6 houses on the street which I owned entirely, so you can imagine how the others were when they saw what I have done, especially when it was right after the GO. One of the land (on that street) through auction, because another player refused to buy. So me and o antoher player bid for it, until I find it not worthed for me to pay so much and I stopped. By then it was already $1500, and the player realises she did not have that much money to pay for it. Everyone started to psycho me to buy it, saying that I already own the another land and with that I can build houses, collect more rent, increase wealth, etc etc. So I obliged. And haha, I end up owning the own stretch of the street.
But hor, even though I seemed to have so many land and houses (most houses, btw), I still lost by $300 to the second place, and cannot proceed to the next round. Just as well, though the process was fun, I don't feel like staying so long either.
Suresh and ZL got last at their table.
Another end result was that, I lost my calculator [again] of 1+ years. -.- When I took it out to calculate my monopoly assets. Though I made it a point to store my hp no. inside one of the memory slots of the calculator, at first sight it may just look like a string of numbers, and someone might have pressed the reset button and everything's gone. I doubt those people will guessed that it is mine anyway even though I have also written the second character of my name on the back of it.
Sighs.
Thursday
I decided that, whether I get it back or not, I am going to get a new calculator. The old one was starting to get low in battery anyway, but I don't wish to change the batt until it is so going to die out; and I wanted to get another one long ago as a spare. So on the way to school I went to popular and paid $20 for a new one.
MOB tutorial was cancelled so lesson starts at 2pm. We had our first MAths lecture and the first topic we had was none other than my worst feared subject MATRICES. I thought I was so going to die cos I am soooo bad at the multiplication part. But the teacher wasn't going to touch on that until the next day.
DBMS practical: only it is more theory. I noticed there is something funny about the way the teacher speaks.
For instance: "one columns", "four column", "I'll tells you more about it later", "It will then go search for the informations", "this will impry (imply) that...", "it has to be com-ba-ta-ble (compatible) with...".
The most obvious is sometimes she likes to speak words with a 's' when they shouldn't be, and vice versa. But sometimes she gets the words correct.
I wondar wartis going on wit her.
And the IDEA teacher showed up insisting that we give her 5mins of our time before we go home (it ends up to be nearly 15mins). She apologised for having to make some of us came for nothing the day before and talked a bit about the module.
And she goes on and on, more like ranting her dislike for it to us.
She told us this year the module has went through a revoluationary change with the change of the new top management fot the module, much to the teachers' dislike, she told us.
Her tone was sarcastic, and I can tell she seems pretty impassionate about the module.
She told us she is a very pratical person, and not only is it true, I say she is very honest to us too. Too honest. 70% of her sentences start with "...I'll be honest with you..."
I won't say more in case of inviting trouble.
Friday
Continued with Matrices. I think I might have get a hang of the multiplication, but my rate of doing the tutorial questions is way too slow. How am I suppose to get through my exam?!?!?!
BTW, the Maths tut teacher seems to be mumbling to himself. Can't really make out what he is trying to say. -.- Went home after that. I love Fridays. x) Spent the afternoon shopping with mom for shoes and bag needed for relative's wedding. Mom also bought long pants which are more formal for me.
Saturday
And its weekend already! I have been spending the morning trying to fix my antivirus program. It seems alright now after I am finally able to get it removed and reinstall it (for god knows reason, it is not uninstalled even though the window says uninstalled successfully). But there are still a couple more to go. The computer's a bit siao lately.
This has been a rrrrreally long post! I hope nobody's eyes has fallen out already, heh.
